“That sounds a bit fishy,” Hadley said.
“Do former MI6 agents use the word fishy?” Bennett asked.
“I do. Anything in the emails, Hex?”
“The search is still running. And I’m cross-referencing newspaper articles from the date of the text message for anyone with Kit in their name.”
Damn, this Hex was good. Bennett wondered if he could lure her away from Hawke.
Hadley tapped her nails on the desk again “I hope we’re onto something here.”
“If I could get in to talk with Archie, I’m sure I can get him to share,” Bennett said.
“You know he’s locked up tight,” Hadley said. “He tried to blow up a lot of important people.”
“It was a fake bomb.”
“He didn’t know that. From what David said, Archie’s not well. I doubt you’d get anything coherent out of him.”
Bennett raked a hand through his hair. “Someone did this to him. He’s getting the best treatment, so there is always a chance he might be able to share something.”
Hadley paused and he felt her gaze like a laser.
“The best treatment?” she asked.
He shrugged a shoulder. “He needs help.”
“And you’re paying for that?”
“He’s one of mine,” Bennett said.
She kept looking at him like he was some strange puzzle she couldn’t put together. “He betrayed you.”
“He was preyed on, because he worked for me.”
“Okay, I found some emails to a kittycat99,” Hex said. “Ahh…some areveryinteresting emails.”
Hadley leaned over Bennett, her breast brushing his shoulder. He closed his eyes and counted to five.
“Interesting, how?” Hadley asked.
Hex waggled her eyebrows. “Like porn interesting.”
Bennett focused on the screen and the emails that Hex had isolated.Jesus. Some of Archie and Kittycat’s emails were rather X-rated.
Hadley gasped.
“Hell,” Bennett muttered. “I didn’t know Archie had it in him.”
“A blow job in her car, sex in a park, sex in her bed when her husband was away on business, spanking.” Hadley cleared her throat. “Sounds like Archie was…enthusiastic.”
“Look at the earlier emails,” Hex said. “She was working him hard.”
Bennett saw how the woman was manipulating Archie, especially once sex was involved. Essentially grooming him. His stomach turned over.
“She was brainwashing him to her cause,” Hadley said, reading through the emails. “To stop British military interference abroad.”
“Got her!” Hex announced.
