“People tend to see what they want to see.”

Something pinged on his radar. “Did someone fool you, Hadley?” Did someone break her trust and start the foundations of those walls of hers?

He saw a flash of emotion in her eyes before she hid it. “We aren’t talking about me.” She tapped her nails on the desk. “Maybe someone got to him. Manipulated or blackmailed him. He seemed very unhappy that you were at the party. I don’t think he wanted to hurt you.”

Bennett forced himself to focus on Archie, and nodded. It was a small comfort that his own employee hadn’t wanted to kill him.

“I don’t see anything here,” she said. “But I know someone who can help us. I’ll call the Sentinel Security goddess of hacking and tech.”

“A hacker?”

“A good one.”

“Go ahead.” They needed answers.

Hadley rose, pressing her phone to her ear and paced. That tempting body moved past him, back and forth.

Pure torture.

“Hex. I have a job for you.” Hadley ran down what they needed. Then she put her cell phone on the desk and put it on speaker.

“I need access to the Secura system,” Hex said.

“Sure thing,” Bennett said, pulling the laptop closer.

“Ooh, that British accent.” He glanced down and saw the face of the woman on the screen of Hadley’s phone. She had dark hair with pink tips that brushed her shoulders, and a cute face.

“I have a British accent,” Hadley said.

“Sorry, I’m not into girls.” Hex’s nose wrinkled. “If I was though, I’d do you.”

Hadley rolled her eyes. “Thanks. I think.”

“Okay, Mr. Hottie Billionaire, I’m in.”

“Ignore her,” Hadley said.

“You don’t think I’m a hottie billionaire?” he asked.

That earned him another eyeroll. “I’m not stroking your ego, Knightley.”

“Uh-oh, you said the word stroking.”

She snorted.

“I’m just a simple soldier, after all,” he said. “It doesn’t take much.”

“You’re not just a simple anything,” she countered.

“You two are cute,” Hex said, grinning.

“Have you got anything?” Hadley asked pointedly.

“I do. I’m still running several searches, but I found a few text messages. He messaged someone he saved as Kit. He talked about missing her, and seeing her in the newspaper with her husband and being jealous.”

“Archie was seeing a married woman?” Bennett asked, shocked.

“There are only a few texts. Kit tells him not to use the phone. To email her.”
