“Studying,” I mumbled, head still resting on my arm. “I worked with Nai for a few hours, but I’ve got an exam at the end of the week, so I wanted to take a few minutes to look over some material before I needed to check with Jake about Hunter’s case—”
A warm hand touched my shoulder. “I think you need a nap.” It was Zach. they must have come looking for me together. “Thomas has a pillow in his office that you can borrow.”
I snorted and glanced at Thomas. “Do you really have a pillow?”
He shrugged. “Sometimes, it’s necessary. Why do you think we all have couches in our offices?”
I raised an eyebrow. “To meet with clients?”
Zach laughed. “That might be the company line,” he said, “but I don’t think I’ve ever sat with clients over there. We’re usually seated around my desk.”
I sat up and stretched again. I couldreallyuse a massage. “You two really take naps in your offices?”
“All the time,” Thomas said, and Zach made a noise of affirmation. “You should come take a nap in my office.”
It wassotempting, but I did need to study. “I need a cup of coffee,” I said and stood.
“You need sleep,” Zach said.
I shook my head. “I can’t. Not right now. I need to stay awake and get some work done.”
Thomas stood. “We’ll keep you company,” he said.
Zach nodded. “We’ll keep you awake.”
They were like two big puppies. “Don’t you have cases to work on?” I asked.
They glanced at each other and then shrugged. “Nothing that can’t wait,” Thomas said. “Let’s get you some coffee, and we can quiz you for your exam.”
I glanced at Zach, and we were both thinking about the last time he quizzed me for school. My stomach clenched at the memory. “Okay,” I said. “Coffee and studying.”
We walked to the lounge, and I pawed three K-cups out of the drawer—dark roast for Zach and me and hazelnut flavored for Thomas. My men plucked them from my hands and shooed me away from the machines. “We’ve got this,” Thomas said. “Grab some chips?”
I nodded and opened the snack drawer and searched through the basket to find the flavors I knew they liked. Once we were loaded up with snacks, Thomas led us back to his office. Trevor wasn’t behind the desk. In fact, I hadn’t seen him in awhile. “Where’s Trevor?”
“Down in HR,” Thomas said. “He was hitting on another assistant, and she reported him for harassment.”
That was... not at all shocking, honestly. “Is he getting fired?”
He shrugged. “This one is out of my hands,” he said. “He would deserve it.”
We took our snacks into Thomas’s office. I purposely sat in a chair that wasn’t entirely comfortable to resist the sleep tugging at my eyelids. I spread my study materials out and sipped at the coffee, bitter but so good, and tried to force myself to focus.
It quickly became apparent that it was a losing game, however. My eyes were just as heavy as before, even with the caffeine crawling through my system. I groaned. “Ican’tkeep my eyes open,” I said.
“You need sleep,” Zach said.
Frustration was starting to strangle me. “I don’t have time to sleep.” I pushed myself to my feet. “I should just go back to the legal library.”
Zach’s arms wrapped around me. He pulled me back against his chest. He felt good and warm, and I let myself sag against him. “You’re going to burn yourself out like this,” he said softly. “I’m worried about you.”
“We both are,” Thomas said, stepping in front of me, filling my vision with his face. He cupped my chin and tipped my face up and kissed me. I hummed into the kiss. His lips sent jolts down my spine.
I licked at his bottom lip, and his mouth opened with a soft sound deep in his throat. We stood, locked together, feeding at each other’s mouths like we wouldn’t get another chance. “I’m suddenly more awake,” I murmured against his lips.
Zach’s lips brushed against the back of my neck, above the collar of my blouse, and a shiver sprinted down my spine. “So, is this helping?” he asked in my ear. “Or are we distracting you?”
Both, definitely both, but if they stopped touching me right now, I might seriously have a meltdown. How did I go from so tired I was nearly falling over asleep to shivery and needy? What power did these men have over me to do that? “Helping,” I sighed when he nipped the back of my neck.
