“Yes, sir.”

“I should putyou over my knee.” We were back in my office, and I had crowded her against the wall as soon as the door shut.

Alex smirked at me and looped her arms around my neck. “Are you jealous, Mr. Jacobs?”

I kissed her, sucking her bottom lip between mine. “Horribly,” I said, “and I have a feeling Thomas and Zach will be too.”

She shook her head. “You three are a little ridiculous,” she murmured, kissing me again. “I wasn’t even flirting with Hunter.”

“You might not have been,” I said, “but he was looking at you.”

“How is that my fault?” she countered. “I can’t control anyone else’s eyes or what they think of me.”

Logically, I knew that, but it didn’t stop that darkness that I felt in my chest. “You’re ours,” I told her. “No one else is allowed to touch you.”

Alex looked at me like I’d gone soft in the head. “Of course they aren’t,” she said. “I’d never let that happen.”

“Because you’re happy with us, right?”

“I’ve never been happier in my entire life,” she said.

Her words kicked me in the stomach.I’m falling for her, I thought dumbly. Of course I was. I had been falling for her from the moment we met at the wedding, from the moment I felt her beneath me. I couldn’t quite say the words, not yet, but it would happen. Soon.

“You’re really taking his case?” she asked.

I nodded. “It’s like a fool’s errand, but I do like to be challenged.”

Alex’s smile could rival the sun. “You’re hot when you’ve got that look on your face,” she said and brushed her lips against my chin, against my jaw. “You should always pick clients who light this kind of fire.”

I snorted. “Tell me that again when I’m doing twenty-four-hour shifts.”

“I don’t think I’ve slept more than four hours in a row in the last three weeks.” I groaned and stretched my back until it popped.

“That’s what you get for working full-time and going to school full-time,” Naomi said. “You can’t do full-time twice over and still sleep.” She and I had been working in the legal library at the firm for the last three hours, gathering past cases that might help with the one she was currency working on.

Let alone dating three men at the same time, I thought but didn’t say aloud. As much as I liked Naomi, I couldn’t quite trust her with that information. Maybe at some point I would feel comfortable, but it couldn’t be while I was still working here. “You think if I took a nap during my lunch break, anyone would notice?”

Naomi snorted. “Do you need to come to my office? I usually get left alone in the afternoon.”

“You’re a sweet friend,” I cooed. “I may take you up on that later.”

She checked her watch. “I’ve actually got a meeting in a few minutes. If you need to sleep, my office isn’t locked, okay?”

I nodded. “Thanks, Nai.” I watched her gather her files, and with a wave, she left.

I really tried to go back to studying—exams were coming up, after all—but my eyes kept drifting shut. I heard the door open again and tried to sit up, but my bones were suddenly made of syrup.

“Poor sweetheart is just exhausted.”

My lips curled upward into a smile. I didn’t have to see him to know that it was Thomas. “You’re supposed to be in a meeting.”

“It just ended,” he said, and I felt, more than saw, him sit down in the chair that Naomi had just been sitting in. “What are you doing?”
