“I understand—”

“You don’t understand shit,” I said, cutting my president off. “No disrespect Sundance, but you don’t have the demons I have. You’re able to controlyour emotions. Make rational decisions at the drop of a hat. Most of the time, I feel like a rocket ship chained to the launchpad at takeoff. Sierra knows how to break those chains and let me fly. She’s the only one who can cool me down before I overheat and explode. That perfect little hippy chick is the only truly beautiful and perfect thing that’s ever happened to me, and if she’s taken away from me, or changed, I’ll blow. I’ll blow and it’ll be nuclear.”

“Just so I’m clear,” Taxi said. “Are you making threats?”

I looked him dead in the eyes. “You givin’ me a reason?”

“Sierra’s gonna be fine,” Sundance said. “I promise.”

“That’s a promise you can’t make, Sunny, and you know it. But, if you two wanna know if that was a threat, Taxi? No. That was a promise.” With that, I opened the door and walked out, slamming the door behind me. Turning toward my room, I was surprised to find Sierra standing in the hall. “How much of that did you hear?”

“All of it. You were kind of yelling.”

“I’m sorry. I didn’t want you to hear that.”

Tears streamed down Sierra’s face. “You didn’t want me to hear the most romantic thing I’ve ever heard in my life?”

“That?”

She nodded, pulling me close for a kiss. “I love you,” she whispered.

“I love you, too, Moonbeam.”

“Let’s forget about Toscana’s. Send a recruit outfor pickup. You can eat me first.”

I picked her up and threw her over my shoulder, carrying her up to my room, where I proceeded to do just that.

Sierra

Two weeks later…

“Wake up, Moonbeam, we’re headin’ out.”

I forced my eyes opened and glared up at my man. “What? What are you talking about? What time is it?”

“Six.”

“In the morning?”

“Yeah,” he said, throwing the covers off me. “We’ve got a long drive ahead.”

I sat up. “What do you mean, we have a longdrive?”

“Just get dressed, baby, that’s all I’m tellin’ you.”

“Wrath, I have no idea where we’re going, ergo, I haven’t packed because I have no context.” I slid off the bed and followed him into the bathroom. “You can’t just drop that kind of information on a girl—”

“Raquel packed for you.”

“I thought we couldn’t travel,” I said. “Because we need to keep our relationship secret so that we can use the Lucy op in the future.”

“It’s all on the DL, baby. Rabbit got us IDs.”

I gasped. “Wrath, I’m an FBI agent. I can’t travel on false papers.”

“Sure you can. It’s easy, you just don’t tell anyone.”

I threw my hands in the air. “Booth—”
