“Shit, there was a bet going around?” Damion shook his head.
“Yeah, I won the one about you asking her out.” Brett smiled. “I had last Tuesday down as the day you’d move in together. Lea had next year.” He laughed.
Damion rolled his eyes. “There is no such thing as a personal life around here.”
“Nope,” Brett said with a smile. “But I’m really enjoying that aspect.”
“Yeah.” Damion stood up. “So am I.” He thought back to Zoey’s speech earlier that morning.
One thing was crystal clear—the people that worked at River Camps stood up for one another. They weren’t just employees, they were family.
CHAPTERTWENTY-FOUR
“My plan is tricky,” Damion told Jules later that evening.
They had gone to his parents’ place to celebrate the closing on his land.
She enjoyed his parents a lot. Almost as much as she enjoyed time with her own folks. It was a relaxing dinner. One where Jules hadn’t feared the outbursts that she’d grown accustomed to from her father.
They were back at their place, sitting on the sofa and eating some of the ice cream they’d gotten at the grocery store during their first official shopping trip as a couple. She’d learned that grocery shopping could be fun, with the right person.
“Plan?” Jules asked.
“I’ve run it by everyone—Zoey, Dylan, Brett, and the lawyers.” He glanced over at her on the sofa. “We’re going to leak the video of Lisa Tribberton attacking Zoey on theWind Chaser.”
Jules first gut response was to laugh, but then she thought about it. Really thought. Then she smiled.
“That’s an amazing idea.” Jules set her spoon down and leaned forward. “When?”
Jules knew that the first of many news reports had been released on the camp. The rest of the articles were scheduled to start going out to the public tomorrow. The impact from the article releases would be much more massive than the first one released that morning from the local station.
“Tomorrow, the same time the reports about River Camps will go out,” Damion answered.
Jules’s smile grew. “What a wonderful idea.” She leaned over and kissed Damion.
“You know this means that you and Beth are going to be much busier tomorrow answering phones,” he joked.
She laughed. “Yes, I bet. Who cares. I can’t wait.” She hugged him again.
“I thought you would say that. We’ve decided to send the file to Belinda in the morning.”
The following morning, a large group of them met in the employee dining room over breakfast.
Zoey and Dylan were there with Paige. Normally, they didn’t have their daughter on the campgrounds, but since Zoey’s mother Kimberly and Reed Cooper were there as well, they brought her along.
All of the employees gushed over the little one-year-old. Jules had spent many hours with the little girl, sometimes even babysitting her when Zoey and Dylan wanted a night out. So naturally, Paige reached for her and sat in her lap while everyone talked.
The girl dribbled all over Jules’s fingers and sucked on her bottle and then fell asleep in her arms.
Jules wanted to stay right there for the rest of the morning, but duty called. The email had been sent from Brett’s account. If anything went down, Brett figured he should take the fall, since he was head of security.
When Jules finally reluctantly handed Paige over to Dylan and returned to the front desk, Beth was waving her to hurry up and answer the other ringing phone.
After answering a few questions about bookings, Jules blocked out the dates, took the credit card number for deposit, and then hung up.
Beth had just hung up the phone as well.
“It’s been crazy. Booking after booking.” Beth did a little booty dance. “We’re back, bitches.” She high-fived Jules.
