“Little pig, little pig, you can’t run! Little pig, little pig, this is so much fun!”
* * *
My heart smacked into my ribs.
The monster had returned. Damien was standing right behind me.
I couldfeelhim.
“Going somewhere?”
I squeezed my eyes shut, not wanting to look.
“Go away,” I pleaded.
He let out a nasty chuckle that made my skin crawl. “You seem interested in the garden shed. You’d rather wait for Adrik in there than in the warm house? Fine by me.”
Reaching down, he grabbed my foot and dragged me away from the shed so he could open the door. Then he snagged my ankle, pulling me inside the small enclosure.
I was too weak to fight.
Exhaustion set in.
Tired. I’m so tired.
My eyelids drooped, my vision blurring.
Slap!
I gasped, jerking, as his hand connected with my cheek.
“None of that, piggy. Stay awake until I get Adrik. It won’t be any fun if you die before he gets here.”
“Adrik,” I slurred. “I want Adrik.”
“You want the ugly beast?” He sneered. “Ha! Well, lemme go get him for you, piggy.”
Damien grabbed my hands, lifting them above my head, and secured them with something. Then he pulled me up…up, until my feet barely touched the ground.
What’s he doing?
My head lulled to the side. I could feel myself slipping…
Slap!
I jolted, moaning as he struck me again.
“I said no sleeping, piggy! Stay awake!”
He pulled roughly on the rope that held my arms above my head, then marched out of the small shed.
“Hang tight, piggy! Oh, you already are hanging, aren’t you?” He sniggered at his stupid joke. “Don’t go anywhere. I’ll be back.” Another cackle, then he slammed the door.
My head spinning wildly, I closed my eyes.
I’d lost too much blood. And the steady flow down my leg indicated I was rapidly bleeding out.
I was going to pass out soon.
