Wyatt huffed. He was in the mood for another fight, pissed that he hadn’t got one.

“Come on,” Belle said. “Cops make me nervous.”

He touched the gun hidden in his waistband and sighed. “Yeah, we should get going. Don’t wanna get searched just because they’ve got fuck all else to do.”

When they arrived back at the Sleepwell Motel, the boxing ring had been cleared away and a line of bikes stood in a row. But the place was quiet. Belle guessed everyone had hit Champs to talk about the drama of the evening over liquor.

Wyatt killed the engine then rubbed his jawline. He grimaced.

“Does it hurt?” Belle asked, climbing off and touching his chin.

“Nah.”

She frowned. She’d bet good money it did. “I’m gonna check on Teddy. That okay with you?”

“’Course it is, babe. You do that, I’ll take a shower.”

“You not going to Champs?”

He shook his head. “Doesn’t seem right with Carter in a cell. I know that’s crazy-assed logic, but…”

“He’s your buddy. I get it.” She smiled. “I won’t be long.”

She strutted toward the room Teddy was staying in, hoping he was there and not out drinking with a possible concussion. Bikers were tough as nails, true, but brains were brains.

A wolf whistle filled the air. Wyatt. He was watching her walk away.

She wriggled her ass a little bit more, knowing it looked hot, and placed her hands on her waist to accentuate the roll of her hips.

Behind her, Wyatt chuckled. “That ass’ll be the goddamn death of me.”

A lovely warmth filled her. He made her feel special and wanted, yet at the same time, it was as if they’d been together for years.

She knocked on room thirty and waited. Nothing. She knocked again.

Brooklyn answered.

“Oh, hi,” Belle said. “Is Teddy here?”

“Yeah, I made him rest up. He wanted to go for beer and whisky.”

“Wow,” Belle said. “And he did what you told him?”

Brooklyn scowled, two neat lines slashing over her brow. “Of course.” She opened the door wider, and Belle stepped inside. “Why wouldn’t he?”

“Well … that’s good then.”

Brooklyn clearly had sway. Teddy wasn’t in the habit of doing anything he didn’t want to.

“I’m glad he’s here. He needs to rest,” Belle said.

“Yeah, that was quite a hit. To drop him to the floor like that. Wyatt certainly got lucky.” Brooklyn paused. “Actually no, he’s hardcore when he wants to be.” She leaned closer. “Don’t let his boyish smile and that arrogant but charming way of his fool you.”

“Oh, believe me, I know he’s all man.” Belle lifted her eyebrows.

Brooklyn laughed quietly. “You make a cute couple. You gonna come stay with us in Clement?”
