“What’s happened?” Wyatt asked.

“Homicide.” The cop’s radio crackled, and he flicked it off. “One of yours.”

His gaze slid over Wyatt and then Belle. “One less criminal gang member for us to hunt down. Makes our life easier if you hunt each other.”

Wyatt bristled, but with effort, he didn’t react. It wouldn’t get him anywhere. “Who was it?”

“Dunno.” The cop shrugged and gestured to the right. “Move along. Nothing to see here.”

There was something to see. Just beyond the farthest cop car, a body in a black bag was being wheeled on a gurney to a waiting ambulance.

“Fuck,” Wyatt muttered. He hoped to hell it wasn’t a Barbarian in that bag.

“Jesus Christ,” Belle said, pressing close. “I hope that’s Finnegan.”

He wrapped his arm around her. Like him, she was likely thinking of all the people it could be other than Finnegan. If it was Rigor, Wyatt didn’t know how she’d go on.

He squeezed her close. “We’ll find out soon enough, and it will be okay, I pr—”

His words were cut off. The majority of bikers appeared to have been cleared from the bar, but now, in cuffs, Carter was being roughly led along the sidewalk by two cops.

“Shit,” Wyatt muttered. “They’ve got Carter.”

Belle pressed her hand to her mouth. “This isn’t good.”

“Nah, it isn’t. Fuck. What the hell happened in there?”

Carter was taken to a cop car. His face was contorted with anger, blood stained his t-shirt, and his right arm appeared to be bleeding too. Roughly, he was shoved inside the vehicle.

Wyatt wanted to go to his aid, fight the cops, fight them all. Seeing his best buddy like that was more painful than his smashed-up face.

“I gotta know what happened,” Wyatt said. “Let’s go find Hudson.” He turned and almost bumped straight into Jayden. “Hey, man, what’s going down?”

Jayden had a split lip and his black Nirvana t-shirt was ripped at the neck. “We got him.”

“Finnegan?” Wyatt asked.

“Yeah.” Jayden gave a smug grin. “Won’t be informing ever again, fucking rat.”

“Good.” Belle nodded. “He deserved that.”

“Yeah, your pa will be pleased.” Jayden nodded at the emergency vehicles. “Got nasty in there. Chaos too.”

“Why do they have Carter?” Wyatt asked.

“He was over the body when the police stormed in. Looked guilty as sin even though it wasn’t him who drove in the knife.”

“Who did it?” Belle asked.

“Let’s just say a few of us can take the credit for cornering him, but the fatal wound that…” Jayden paused, pressed his lips together. “Carter shouldn’t have anything to worry about. They can’t pin it on him.”

“Let’s hope not.” Wyatt shook his head. “Brooklyn will have a fit if he goes down again.”

“He won’t.” Jayden paused as the cop car carrying Carter followed on behind the ambulance. “As long as he gets a decent attorney ’cause the judge won’t have any evidence other than circumstantial, no DNA on him, nothing.”

“You sure?” Wyatt asked.

“Yep. I should probably burn this t-shirt though.” He glanced down at a dark bloody wet patch. “I’m gonna get out of here. Everyone else is. Job’s done and we can’t help Carter tonight. He’s stuck in a cell.” He stepped away. “You guys should disappear, too. The dudes Finnegan was hanging out with aren’t the friendliest.”
