“With my life.”
“Love me?”
What the fuck were you doing to me, Cammie? Asking me that question, melting my heart with two words just like that? I brushed my thumb over her cheek, holding her face with my hand and let out the most heated sigh I’d ever breathed. “Always. Do you?”
She smiled. “Ask me that question at the end of the night.”
CHAPTER 46
Cameron
Wrapping my arms around my man’s waist, feeling his warm body pressed against mine, smelling his musk as we rode through the night brought back beautiful memories of peaceful times.
Tonight was my last chance to put everything behind me and find peace again.
I didn’t answer any of Dusty’s questions until we returned to Rosewood. We made a quick appearance to make sure everybody saw us, and then I led him to the Boiler.
“You found out the blonde bitch is Wrench’s spy and you’re dragging me down here right now? We gotta alert the brothers. Wrench can be barging into Rosewood any minute,” he said.
“He will be here in less than five minutes,” she whispered. “I heard the bitch arranging the raid with him on the phone myself.”
“What? And you tell me now?” He blamed me with his eyes, letting go of my hand.
“Listen to me.” I held on to his slipping fingers. “We’ll take the back exit from here and into the woods. I already hid my bike there. We’ll leave and never look back like we were supposed to,” I panted nervously.
The temptation in his eyes was evident but so was the torment. “I can’t leave my brothers under fire.” He yanked his hand out of mine and spun back.
“No, Dusty. You can’t go back in there.”
“Just wait for me in the woods. I’ll come find you when it’s over.”
“No… The whole place will blow up!”
He stopped in his tracks and slowly turned to me. “What did you do?”
“What I needed to do. It’s the only way to move on.”
His tight grip squeezed my arms, shaking me hard. “That was your fucking plan all along? There are people up there. They trusted you with their lives as much as I did. They ate with you, fought with you, protected your ass as much as they could,” he roared. “What the fuck did you do?”
“And it’s gonna shatter my already broken heart later when we’re miles away from here. But the Night Skulls had to be destroyed. Along with Wrench and his Skulls and everything threatening our fucking lives. I saw an opportunity, and I jumped at it, Dusty.” I stepped closer to him. “For us.”
His bitter eyes widened at me while his jaws clenched. “Carter is up there.”
“What?” I shook my head hysterically. “He left yesterday. I saw him go with Skid with my own eyes.”
“He brought him back a few hours ago.”
The last brick in the wall had fallen to the ground. My head spun. All the pain I’d been storing, hiding, suffocating gnawed at my flesh and my soul.
Several muffled bangs seeped through the ceiling. Gunshots. Wrench must have arrived.
Dusty looked up and around him. Then he shook me again. “Whatever the fuck you did, stop it now.”
Dazed, I just stared back at him. “I can’t. I was afraid I’d back down so I already set it to blow up while we were out.”
“When?”
“Nine minutes from now.”
