Because I had to hold on to what was left of my brick wall for a little longer. If I broke down now, everything I’d worked so hard for, everything I’d paid for in blood, would be lost.

Beth wasn’t the end of my revenge. It was only the beginning.

Just a few more nights, Dusty. Just a few more nights, my love.

CHAPTER 45

Dusty

“Meet me at the Little Wicked @ 9.”

I woke up to that text from Cameron. Squinting at my side, I saw she wasn’t there. I looked at the clock on my phone. 11 a.m. Fuck. I barely saw her last night, and now she was already out that early and planning to stay at the titty bar all day.

Ok. We gotta talk.I texted back.

Tonight was the night I sorted shit out. No more lies. No more secrets. The end of this charade.

At seven, I met Skid at the gates. He was coming back with his kid. “What the hell?”

“Just till tonight, Prez. That bi…” He clawed is hands at the air, swallowing the curse so Carter wouldn’t hear it.

I shook my head, but one look at the boy’s eyes tugged at my heart. “Get inside, but you gotta move him in the morning. It’s not safe here.”

“I know. I’ll send him over to my sister till it’s done, but she has a shift tonight and can’t have him.”

I got on my bike and roared off the gates. I had something important to do before meeting Cameron.

Music streamed from the club as I turned off the engine and walked inside. Purple and yellow lights dimmed my vision. Bouncing tits and pole dances greeted me as I cruised through the grating bodies. I reached the bar. Serena and Candy were making out topless on top of the bar for extra tips from the thirsty, cheering crowd.

I waited the show over before I tapped on the counter. Serena came running to me with a shaking smile. “Get you anything, Dusty?”

“Claws?”

She pressed away that smile as I felt arms wrapping around my shoulders. I turned, and Cameron was there. She pulled me in for a long, hot kiss, pushing her hips against mine. “Right here.”

I grabbed on my anger to shield me from what her kiss was still capable of doing to me. “We need to talk.”

“I know.” She smiled, leading me to the dance floor. “Dance with me first.”

“Not in the mood. And your leg is hurt.”

“Please.”

I sighed and moved with her. For a moment or two, I was lost in the way her hips swayed against my cock. But the heartache she’d left me with all alone for days every day since she woke up wouldn’t let me forget.

My hands dropped off her waist. “We gotta talk, Cameron. Now.”

She pulled me in for another kiss, and then bit my earlobe. “We will once we get out of here. Just play along.”

Play along? I laughed at myself. All the kissing and touching and dancing was another act to get whatever the fuck she wanted now. I leaned in close to her ear. “I’m done with your shit…Claws.”

That dark side of hers didn’t speak to me anymore. It’d fucked up everything.

Drawing back, I almost forced her off me when she used all her strength to keep me in her embrace. She stretched on her toes and bent my head to her shoulder. “I swear it’s nothing like that. But Serena needs to see that we’re good and ready to fuck all night at home. So please just play along,” she whispered.

I pretended to kiss her neck. “Is she…”

“Yes. I’ll tell you everything when we leave.” She met my eyes, and for the first time in weeks, her smile touched her gaze. “Trust me?”
