Me:Men like what?

Lex:The straight ones who just want to experiment.

My heart clenches in my chest and I lean back against the wall and close my eyes for a minute. I picture August’s sweet face looking at me, his mouth telling I’m worth it. Fuck. I raise my phone again and my thumbs fly across the screen.

Me:I don’t think that’s the issue. He’s just worried about his mom.

Me:He doesn’t want to disappoint her.

Lex:Parents were created so we could disappoint them. It’s in the job description.

Me:Um, how would we know what normal parents are supposed to do? Ours were abusive drug addicts who wished we were dead.

Lex:True. Psycho Moms Club for life. Ride or die, Bitch.

Me:LOL

I rub at my chest because yeah, I don’t know what it’s like to disappoint a parent. My mom was the one who always disappointed me. No, she did more than that. She fucking ruined my life and any chance I had at normalcy. And I don’t think Thomas ever had any real expectations of me to begin with. He could take me or leave me.

Lex:All I’m saying is stick to your guns. You deserve to not be kept secret.

Me:Yeah. I know. He said I was worth it. That has to mean something.

Lex:My bitter heart says ‘we’ll see’.

“Hey,” a soft voice says from behind me, and I turn and see August in my doorway. “You disappeared.”

“Yeah, I uh…had to get changed and then Lex was texting me. Got distracted.”

I hold up my hand and waggle my phone in the air.

August eyes it and then runs a hand through his wet hair. “Want me to leave you alone?”

“Fuck no,” I whisper and toss the phone onto the bed. “But we should probably go out there before one of them gets suspicious.”

“Yeah,” he replies but then slips inside the room and closes the door as quietly as he can.

And hell, my heart rate accelerates because I know what’s coming. I love when he surprises me and takes charge. It makes me feel like maybe he feels the same way about me as I do about him.

He moves toward me and my eyes lick over every inch of him. His expansive chest, his narrow hips, and the noticeable bulge in the front of his sweats.

“You’re looking at me like you want to eat me,” he whispers.

“Because I do.”

He stops in front of me and our lips hover, just centimeters apart. I can feel his breath brush against my mouth and I feel a bit dizzy from the anticipation.

“I want you in my bed tonight,” he says, and I gasp as he slides his thick thigh between my legs and presses into my erection.

“Yeah, just try and stop me,” I try to say coolly, but it sounds way too breathless and needy.

He tugs on my hair, tilting my head and then kisses me, achingly slow and soft. It lasts just seconds, before he pulls away, but it’s enough to light my whole body on fire.

Then he’s turning and walking back toward the door like a goddamn tease.

“See you out there,” he says, smiling at me and I flip him off because there is no way I’m going out there now. The tent in my pajama pants is so big, a family of four could camp in it.

Goddamn him.
