“I guess that’s one way to keep Gambit in bed, since you’re not putting out,” Stazie said snidely.

I knew Gambit wouldn’t share our personal life. With anyone, much less any of the three bitches. He knew they had it out for me. No way he’d add fuel to the fire.

“You have no idea what goes on behind closed doors.”

“I wouldn’t be so sure about that,” Gretchen added.

Before Bay joined in, “We know what he likes. He’s fucked every one of us.”

“You fucked him. Fucked being the key word. Past tense.”

“There’s no way you can satisfy him. Nothing you can do we haven’t already done.”

“Oh yeah? I can think of one thing right off the bat that none of you have done.”

“We’ve done it all.”

The three were busy being bitchy and didn’t see Gambit enter the room. His face looked like thunder. I crossed the room pulling him in for a kiss that left me knees weak. After I broke the kiss, I reached behind him and pulled the band from his braided hair.

I stroked my fingers through his long hair, admiring the way it spilled down his back and shoulders. Before turning to the bitchy bunnies.

“Any of you played with his hair?”

“Of course, we have,” Stazie blurted out.

“Like hell,” Outlaw said before Gambit could reply.

“We all know Gambit is weird as fuck about his hair. No one touches it.”

“That’s right,” Gambit said. “I consider it an intimate act. Too intimate for someone I’m just fucking. My Queen is the only woman besides my sister who I’ve allowed to play with my hair.

He pulled me in for another kiss before helping me get dinner ready. His errand didn't take as long as he thought.

Breakfast the next day was a fast-food affair brought in by Half Pint. At least my sausage and egg croissant were warm and not greasy. Gambit kissed me before heading off to help the guys. When he wasn’t taking care of club business, he was hands on helping with the remodel.

My heart dropped when I opened my email to find that the kitchen and laundry equipment I ordered were on back order and it would be months before they arrived. I opened my phone, pulled up my contacts, and searched for Kai. Kai Johnson managed a large chain of hotels across the United States.

“It’s about time you called me,” he answered in a snit.

“Sorry, things have been crazy.”

“Crazy like moving out of state and not telling me.”

“I didn’t tell anyone. But I did leave you a voicemail and several texts.”

“Oh, I forgot to tell you Geoffrey and I had a big falling out. He smashed my phone to bits. Then it took a few weeks for the techs to get my new phone set up. My information didn’t back up correctly on the cloud. Are you calling to tell me you’re coming to visit me?”

“Which city are you even in right now?”

I laughed. Kai was based in Indianapolis, but spent equal amounts of time in LA, Boston, New York and Miami.

“In New York. You know you love the city in the fall.”

“I do. It’s not as stifling as summer. Plus, New Yorkers know how to Halloween. I didn’t call for a visit.”

“Well, why the hell not?”

“I’m working.”
