“You do know Logan is speaking with a physician right now, right?”

“I do, but there is something about this doctor. He’s the one. I know he is,” I said confidently.

Fate wasn’t something I believed in, but there was a reason for my choosing that pub and sitting beside him last night. I felt it from the moment he spoke.

“Are you talking about him as a man or a doctor?” Jasper asked.

I sucked in my breath, shocked he’d even think I was looking at Finn with anything personal in mind. All right, so maybe I’d noticed his emerald eyes and how his gaze lingered on my lips as I spoke. And maybe his neatly groomed beard, just slightly redder than the hair on his head, had caught my eye, too. But I’d never admit that his accent was gentler and somehow more musical than any man I’d heard at home.

Keep focused. You’re not here to meet a man. You’re here to find a doctor.

The thought that I was attracted to Finn didn’t thrill me at all. I couldn’t afford to be distracted. My diplomatic visit to Ireland was too important to let physical needs get in the way. Forcing a soft laugh I responded, “You don’t know your big sister if you have to ask. I’m all about Tabiq.”

Jasper didn’t laugh. Instead he replied, “So am I, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t room to find love.”

“All I want to find is the right replacement for Logan. Now are you going to help me or not?” I asked.

“What do you need?”

“Keep my secret. We cannot let anyone know about Logan leaving. Not yet.” I’ll be blamed and it has nothing to do with me.

“We won’t say anything,” he said.

“We?” I asked.

“I don’t keep secrets from my wife. Even if I tried, she’d find out somehow. Sometimes I believe she knows what I’m thinking before I even think it,” Jasper said. “It’s kind of…”

“Fun?”

“I would like to tell you it’s not, but it is,” he laughed.

It was good to hear Jasper sounding so happy. I’d never gotten to see that side of him when he was home in Tabiq. Perhaps living in the United States had brought out this side of him. Or maybe his sweet wife Alissa had helped him come out of his shell. Either way, a small part of me was jealous.

Somehow, I always pictured it the other way around - Jasper as president and me with a family.

“I guess if you forget your promise, I can count on Alissa reminding you. Now, I’d better reach out to Logan.”

“Are you heading out to the pub again?” he asked.

“With any luck, I will be later, to celebrate.”

I ended the call and debated what I wanted to say to Logan. Before I had a chance to give it too much thought, there was a knock on my hotel room door. When I opened it, I was surprised to find Logan.

“May I come in?” he asked.

Opening the door wide, I gestured for him to sit on the couch. “How did your meeting go?”

“Not as well as I’d hoped,” he said with a sigh, slumping hard onto the couch. “He was interested, but not for what you’re offering.”

“Of course. The same thing I’ve been told over and over again.”

“When I spoke to him on the phone initially, he gave me a different impression. I’m sorry that I have wasted your time bringing you here.” Logan said.

“I’m not sure it has been a waste,” I said. He raised a brow and I added, “I think we should reach out to Dr. O’Connor.”

“The man you met at the pub?” he asked.

Nodding, I said, “What do we have to lose? We’re already in Ireland and the jet isn’t leaving till morning.”
