“Friends,” I said, wishing that we were so much more.

“No one is going to believe we’re just friends,” she snapped.

I don’t.

“Are you saying you don’t want to see me?” I asked.

“You know I do,” she replied. “But you being with Logan will not be talked about like if you’re with me.”

“We won’t be the only people there. It’s the perfect way for us to see each other We won’t look like we’re together,” I explained.

“Finn, I’m…”

“Trust me,” I pleaded. Not just because I needed to see her, but I felt if she didn’t take this risk now, she never would. She’d put her entire life on hold indefinitely. And eventually, when she was no longer president, what would she have?

“Okay. I’ll go to the dinner.”

“Thank you. I really want to see you,” I admitted.

“I’ve missed you too, Finn. I’m sorry that I haven’t returned your calls as I should’ve. It’s just that I’ve been so busy.”

Busy trying to avoid me.

“We can talk about it tonight. How is that plant doing?” I asked, trying to lighten the mood.

She sighed. “I did tell you beforehand that I am not good with plants.”

“You didn’t?”

“Yes. That beautiful green shamrock is dead.”

I chuckled. “Guess you’ll just have to come back to Ireland and get another one.”

“I’ll keep that in mind next time I take a vacation,” she said.

“That wasn’t a vacation. If it was, I wouldn’t have let you leave until you’d seen every county.” And I’d have brought you to meet my family.

“That’s true. But I am grateful for what you did show me. Ireland is beautiful,” she replied.

“For the record, I’m expecting a personal tour from you as well.” I didn’t want Bennett or Logan driving me around. I wanted to do it with Reesa. “Unless you don’t feel it’s safe, then I can always ask Bennett if he’ll drive us.”

“I have my own security team.”

I didn’t care who or how, as long as we were together. Logan appeared in the waiting room, but I wasn’t ready to end the call with Reesa. I raised my hand asking for a minute. He must have figured out who I was talking to, because he grinned and nodded.

“How about tomorrow?” I asked.

“For what?”

“The drive?” I said. “Remember, I’m only here a week.”

“Finn, someone is at my door. Can we talk about this tonight?”

“Of course. I’ll see you at dinner,” I said and ended the call.

Logan came closer and asked, “She’s coming?”

“That’s the plan right now,” I said. Unless she panics.
