They are but I still scrunch my face. “That’s not clothes, that’s for drying dishes.”

“Pretend its Versakey.”

“It’s pronounced Versace,” I mutter but I snag the clothes to my chest, adding, “I’m not taking my clothes off in front of you. Close your eyes.”

Sighing heavily, Dom closes them and I quickly undress, then put on a giant t-shirt going below my knees and a wide, black shirt over it. Looking up, I flinch when I notice Dom peering at me through hooded eyes and I cry,

“You peeked!”

“Did not,” he answers huskily, then smirks and my cheeks heat. He did look and I’m overly concerned with whether he liked what he saw or not. Splaying my arms, I wholeheartedly complain,

“I’m bathing in these, I don’t know how I’ll be able to move around...”

Without a word, Dom takes off his leather belt and wraps it around my waist, making the clothes more formfitting.

“There,” he says, taking a step back and he crosses his arms, rubbing a hand over his neck, “we’ll have to go into town soon. Get you some of the stuff you need.”

Why? I’m not staying here for long. I expect us to go back tomorrow. I mean, why wouldn’t we? The coast will be clear because I doubt that those men who attacked us are still lurking around. Besides, me staying here for long is out of the question.

I need to find Melody. And she is not hiding out in these mountains. She would rather die than find herself in a place like this.

“Aha sure,” I croak just to play along and Dom’s eyes narrow, so I cough, “I could use something to drink.”

Nodding sharply, he walks over to the door, shoving a pair of hiking boots on and I raise my brows.

“Where are you going?”

“You’re coming with me.” He jerks his dark head. “We need to quench that thirst of yours.”

Dominic

She bursts out of that door, like she’s scared I’ll leave her here but then shecome to a halt, turning to the dog, “You stay,” she says in a bossy tone that amuses me. “Safer for her that way, isn’t it?” Meadow adds and I nod.

Putting my hand on her back, I ignore her flinching and steer her in a direction between the trees. The sun is still out but in a couple of hours it’ll be dark and I’d like to be done with my hunting until then. There’s little for us to eat here, other than what I managed to grab from the fridge back in the city.

“Stay behind me,” I say and my chest swells when she simply nods. Good, she is already conforming. Shoving branches out of our way, I especially pay attention to the ones with fuzzier leaves that could cause Meadow to have an allergic reaction and I make sure they don’t come in contact with her skin.

Her perfect, smooth skin that I touched with my knuckles and I had to grind my teeth so hard, I thought they were going to crush in my mouth. She never would have allowed me to touch her before, then she would have yapped and flayed with her hands in protest and called me American Psycho.

But around here, there are no pretenses. If she feels a natural attraction to me, she doesn’t have to curb it and I will do the same. I already can’t wait to attack that little body of hers and hear her scream my name and I smile behind my lips. She calls me Dom. I’m not Slade anymore, I’m not even Dominic. I’m Dom.

I love it when she calls me that but that’s not all I want her to call me and I glance at her, causing her to gasp. Probably because of the look in my eyes and I hide my face. Yeah, it’s getting harder and harder to suppress my desire for her but I don’t mind.

Meadow might as well learn my true feelings and when we come to a stop, I put my hand on her lower back like I already own her and this time she doesn’t flinch.

“See that stream over there?” I ask and Meadow nods. “It runs straight all the way to a waterfall; I’ll take you there someday.”

“Or maybe not...” she murmurs and frowning, I snap,

“What’s that, sweetheart?”

I feel her body soften next to mine and when I look at her, her usually proud face is vulnerable, her eyes shimmering and inwardly I curse. Fuck, she really does love that word. It seems to have a drugging effect on her and gently taking her arm, I help her over some moss covered rocks until we’re right by the stream.

We crouch down and Meadow pulls her mouth to the side in hesitation. “This is so not Evian...are you sure the water is sanitary?”

I nod, “See how fast it’s races over the rocks? It filters it naturally. I wouldn’t give you anything that’s not safe.”
