Moaning and pushing her breast further into his hands, she said, “They might leak.”

He laughed and kissed her exposed neck. “They are.”

“This is embarrassing.” She blushed and buried her face in his neck.

“No, it’s not. It’s natural. But we have to stop, anyway.” Despite his words, his hands continued their exploration.

“Why?” She nearly moaned the word.

“Because if we don’t stop now, I’m going to have a hard time stopping.”

“Why are you stopping?”

“Because you can’t . . .” He bit her ear instead of saying the last word.

“Yes, I can.” She pulled off her shirt and went for his.

“Did your doctor say that?” He slid her bra off her arms and gazed at her breast that he hadn’t seen in so long. And if he thought they were big the last time he had seen them, they had grown.

“I don’t need my doctor to tell me. I know my body.” She shimmied away far enough to start removing his pants.

That seemed to be all he needed to hear. Before she could change her mind, he got off the floor and carried her back into the bedroom they had been sharing for weeks. For that entire time, she had been happy to be able to just sleep with him again. But they were definitely ready to do more. Needing more.

Before they made it to the bed, they had both disposed of the clothes they had recently put on and were naked as they climbed in. Knowing that though not much was said, they had finally talked about them, and there was a them again. Only this time, she was ready to tell the world.

CHAPTER23

By the timeTess and Math showed up, Amanda and Hue were at the hospital with Noah. For the first time, they arrived at the hospital holding hands and exchanging secretive looks. Or probably not so secretive since not one of the nurses noticed or cared.

After showing the other couple the baby, Tess and Amanda took baby Zia and went out for lunch and shopping, something Amanda hadn’t done in the weeks since coming to town. It was good for her to get away since her life had been 24/7 baby since she had him.

With the women gone, Hue didn’t know what to do with Math. Usually, his days were spent with his son and Amanda, but Math didn’t really want to spend the day looking at the baby. A baby was a baby, and Math had his own. Since they were staying with Amanda’s friends, he didn’t feel comfortable taking Math there. So, he suggested they go out to eat also.

At the restaurant, they ordered drinks and meals before either really said anything beyond sports and weather. Which, being the end of football season, meant there was quite a bit of sports talk, then add an impending blizzard, and they could go on all day without actually getting personal.

Until it did.

“So, how are things with my sister?” Math asked after taking a long drink of his beer. The man’s added emphasis on the wordsmy sisterwere not lost on Hue.

Hue couldn’t tell if he was upset or just acting like he was upset. “Good, I think. We don’t get much time alone, so we don’t talk much. Too much has been happening with the baby.” Okay, lame, but he wasn’t ever going to tell the man about what happened this morning, no matter how good it was.

“That’s how kids are. Get used to it; you won’t be able to talk to her for eighteen years. By then, you will be so used to not talking, you won’t want to talk, and all she’ll want to do is talk.” Hue knew for a fact Math was talking about his parents, Dolly and Otto, and it was a perfect summary of their marriage. Then he added, “Are you two together then?”

“That’s what we don’t talk about. But I think so. I know I am.” Hue stated the truth.

“Am I allowed to ask how long you have had the hots for my sister? All these year have you only been friends with me to get to her? How is she not the most maddening know-it-all you have ever known? I mean, really… Mandy? The most exasperating of my sisters?” Math chuckled as their food finally arrive.

Hue ignored his best friend. He knew for a fact that Math loved his sisters and wouldn’t trade them for anything. Smiling at the man, he said, “Since she came back.”

“But the kid’s not yours?” Math hedged as he rearranged his food on his plate, as if the chef hadn’t done it right. It was something he had picked up from Tess in the last few months. She did it all the time.

“No, nothing happened for a long time. Because she was your sister, she treated me like a brother, and you should know how she treats her brother.”

“Why do you like her?” Math raised an eyebrow in question.

Smiling, he said, “Because she is smart, funny, and cute. I want to spend all my time with her and am always disappointed when I have to leave her. I don’t want to leave her.”

“That’s not what I want to hear.”
