Chapter 6

Abby

Just when I thoughtI'd made it through the whole day without anyone verbally attacking me–letting their distaste for me show through their judgmental stares and glares– I find myself sorely mistaken. A hand grabs my arm, pulling me to the side just as I was about to leave the school to go home.

“Don’t think we don’t know what you're doing,” someone sneers.

“Ouch!” I hiss back, ripping my arm from her grasp, looking up to find the Heathers crowded around me.

“What are you talking about?”

“Don’t play dumb,” the red haired Heather scoffs. “Don’t think that just because you live with our fiancées that you have any chance with them. They loveusand are loyal tous. You won't corrupt them with your demon powers.”

My eyes widen, and I can’t help the snort that slips past my lips. “You're joking, right?” Please, someone tell me she's joking.

“I’m being dead serious.” She glares at me, crossing her arms over her perky breasts.

“Trust me, they don’t need any help from me on the corrupting part,” I tell them, smirking.

“What is that supposed to mean?” Blonde Heather asks, narrowing her eyes at me.

“Never mind.” I shake my head. I don’t need to be sticking my nose where it doesn’t belong and causing more trouble for myself. If they are dumb enough to think these guys are committed to them, and them alone, then that’s not on me. “Look, I don’t have any mind control powers to help me seduce them or make them do bad, bad things.” I roll my eyes. “Plus, Isaac is mystepbrother.”

“You are nothing but a demon whore, so know your place and keep your claws away from our men,” Heather with the brown hair says, jutting out her chin.

“I don’t want your men, so chill out. I just live in the same house as them, that's it.” But is it? I might not be around them much, but whenever I catch a glimpse of one of them, something inside me stirs, and not entirely in a bad way.

“I saw how you were looking at Isaac at lunch,” redheaded Heather looks around like she's making sure no one can hear her before lowering her voice. “You were practically eye fucking him.”

The other girls gasp, their eyes shooting daggers at me like I offended them.

“I was not,” I say, my brows pinching. Is this girl for real?“And he was looking at me too. This is stupid, can I leave now?” I ask with a huff of annoyance.

I’m growing irritated with these girls. I just want to go home, shower, and get something to eat.

“Not until you promise,” Blonde Heather growls. Damn, for pure blood angels they really are rude and bitchy.

“I promise not to make a move on your men, okay?” I say through gritted teeth before pushing past them.

When I get out to the parking lot, I see that the guys' car is still there. But the moment Luke sees me, his lips stretch into a grin. “Hey, Spawny. Need a ride?”

Do I? I’m not gonna be flying home in this uniform, not making that mistake again.

“I–” I start, about to accept his offer, but then he backs up quickly, making me jump out of the way.

“Just kidding,” he says, giving me a wink before throwing his head back, laughing as he guns it out of the parking lot.

Anger fills me, and on instinct I raise my finger, flipping them off. “Fuck you too, assholes!”

Outraged gasps ring out around me from the remaining students.

“Oh, fuck you too,” I snap at them, pissed off with all this prim and proper bullshit, before taking off in the direction of the house.

It’s going to take me hours to get home by foot. What a wonderful way to end my first day at school.

OF COURSE, TODAY HADto be the day to fucking rain. I’m freezing and my clothes are clinging to my body like a second skin. Thankfully, I’m halfway home.

Thunder crashes close by, making me jump as rain starts to beat down harder. It’s full on pouring now.
