Chapter 5

Abby

The sunlight shinesthrough my window, warming my face and waking me up. Rolling from my side to my back, I stretch out the nighttime kinks.

As I lay here with my eyes still closed, I can’t help the feeling I should be doing something right now.

My eyes snap open as I scramble to grab my phone. Eight a.m. Eight-fucking-a.m! School starts in thirty minutes. Damn it, I’m going to be late.

Why didn’t my alarm go off? Why didn’t one of the guys wake me up since they’re supposed to be taking me to school?

Flinging the blankets off, I jump out of bed and rush over to my bedroom door. Throwing it open, I rush down to the guys’ floor, barging into their rooms. Empty. I try the kitchen next, finding italsoempty.

When I check the garage, the car they normally use is gone, and I don’t have keys for any of the remaining ones.

“Fuck!” I shout, heading back up to my room. Thankfully, I showered yesterday, so all I need to do is get dressed.

Opening my closet, I get out my uniform, noticing something I didn’t see before. There’s little slits in the shirt and jacket.

“Fuck yes!” I smile. If I fly to school, I might not be late.

After I’m dressed, I quickly brush my teeth, grab my bag, and head outside to the front of the house.

A tingling feeling runs up my spine as I will my wings to extend. They pop out, small at first before extending into their full length. I sigh at the feeling of relief. I haven’t flown much since coming here, only doing so when I knew no one could see me.

You see, because I’m part pure blood angel and part fallen angel, my wings are different from most. One of my wings has the softest, whitest feathers and the feathers on my other wing are jet black, but just as soft. I stand out big time.

In Hell, they always looked at me like I didn’t belong, assuming I thought I was better than everyone else because of what I was and who my dad is.

And I know it’s going to be the same here, but in a slightly different way. They will know who I am, what I am with just one glance at my wings.

Giving them a few flaps to stretch them out, I launch myself into the air. Checking my phone, I see I have ten minutes before the first bell will ring. If I really push myself, I should be able to get there in time.

As I soar above the city, heading to the other side of the island, I can’t help but feel my shitty mood slowly seep away as I take in the sights before me. Palm trees are everywhere, the ocean is to my right, and there is so much greenery. This place truly is beautiful. Looking over towards where I’d normally go, at the graveyard, I can see the Dark Night side of the island. It has more of a gloomy feel to it, less trees and plant life. It looks... overcrowded, with houses lined up next to each other and business buildings next to them.

Shifting directions, I head straight for the Academy. I enjoy the feeling of the wind through my feathers, the coolness against my cheeks. When it comes into view, I can see people everywhere. Some students are getting out of their cars while others are rushing into the school. It’s massive, but looks just like any other university that I’ve seen on TV.

Glancing at my phone, I can see that I have just enough time to get inside and find my first class.

As I start to descend over the courtyard, everyone around me looks up. I notice the nasty looks right away.Lovely, I haven’t even stepped foot into the school and already they judge me.

When my feet meet the ground, I hear the gasps and whispers, finding some of them staring at my wings. I should have landed a few streets back, put my wings away and ran like my life depended on it.

It's too late for that now.

Patting down my skirt and hair, I grip my backpack straps, ready to head into the school.

“There’s a reason why the girls drive to school, little sis.” A husky voice has my feet cemented to the ground. Biting my lip, I try to suppress the shiver that threatens to take over my body at the feeling of his hot breath against the back of my neck. He’s not touching me, but he is painfully close. I hate how my body is reacting to his presence, and my mind flashes back to the first time I laid eyes on him. What the fuck is that?

He lets out a deep chuckle as he moves away from me, adding distance between us. Noah follows him, looking back over his shoulder with an amused grin, shaking his head.

“Nice panties, Spawny. Matches your demon wing nicely,” Luke says, leaning in close. “I’ll be picturing what the matching bra looks like underneath your uniform, among other things.” His voice is filled with lust, but it’s when he starts to laugh like it’s the funniest thing in the world, that snaps me out of my frozen state.

Isaac’s words sink in and my stomach drops. I just gave the whole damn school a peep show under my skirt.Damn it!I didn’t even think about that in my haste to get here.

Anger fills my body, my cheeks growing hot as I glare at the three assholes, who stop by the front door and start laughing with a group of people. Hands clenched into fists, I storm over to them.

“You know, if you dickheads didn’t take off without me, then I wouldn't have had to fly to get here on time,” I snap.
