herself zero favors. The guy was just getting more worked up. Normally

Christina hated incompetence. She couldn’t stand sloppy work. She took

pride in what she did, in and out of work. She was meticulous so that she

didn’t make mistakes. However, she did feel a pang of sympathy for the

woman getting yelled at. If anything was more embarrassing than

ineptitude, it was public confrontations.

“I’m truly sorry. I’ll be right back.” The waitress didn’t wait for further

screeching from the dude now sporting the spilled drinks. She took off, tray

in hand.

Her path took her right past Christina’s table. She got a full-on look

of those huge, bright green eyes again. She also noticed how the waitress

tucked her top teeth into her trembling bottom lip as she flew by.

Christina watched the woman until she disappeared through one of

the back doorways. She didn’t turn to study Mr. Rage again, but she could

hear him snorting and stamping like a disgruntled elephant behind her. He

grumbled to the rest of his table, who muttered fake sympathies in response.

They probably thought the guy was a total douchebag and they were right.

Yeah, it sucked to get some drinks spilled on you, but accept the towel and

move the heck on. Better yet, take that grouchy ass into the bathroom and

dab it off with some water and a paper towel and call it a night.

Christina caught April’s eye, and when she rolled her soft browns in

response to the drama, Christina had to bite back a sudden grin. She went

back to studying her cake, but she hardly saw the mashed-up chocolate

mess. It was easier to look at that than to wonder why that waitress’ huge,

mossy jade eyes were still imprinted on her brain.

Taylor

Taylor sunk down onto her living room couch and put her head in her
