The thought of him having a girlfriend makes my stomach churn. If he does, I might have to hunt her down.

Maybe befriend her first and borrow her unbelievably stylish stilettos because I’m sure she’s a fashionable goddess. And then later, fling them back at her with expert precision in hopes that they’ll impale her heart and make her bleed out.

Fortunately, the jealousy that festers within me dissipates when he shakes his head. “No, I don’t have a girlfriend.”

“That’s good.” It’s difficult to keep the smile off my face.

“Really good.”

“I agree.”

We’re both smiling at each other right now, too excited to stop.

Who am I kidding? My feelings for Kayden have never changed. If anything, I’m even more consumed by just how much I feel for him. I’ll never be able to separate from him again. I don’t want to.

“What’s this?” Kayden catches my wrist, eyes bulging when he notices the tattoo below it.

“Oh God, no.” My hand starts to retreat but Kayden isn’t going down easy. He clamps his hand down on mine, then flips my hand over, his calloused thumb brushing over the ink.

“Are those my initials?” Kayden looks at me, his eyes twinkling with humor.

I nod, color tinting my cheeks. “It’s not a big deal.”

He stares at the tattoo again, this time leaning down to press a light kiss on it. I feel that kiss all the way to my toes.

“I really like this,” Kayden says, a grin forming on his face. “I want to show you something too.”

He sends another infectious grin my way before he slowly unbuttons his linen shirt.

“Um, what are you doing?” I squeak.

Shit, what if he thinks we’re about to have sex right now?

On second thought, that’s not actually a bad idea.

“Relax,” Kayden says soothingly, as if he was reading my thoughts, which makes me flush even harder. He doesn’t unbutton the shirt all the way. He tucks the left side of it to expose part of his bare chest. “Right here.”

He points to the place above his heart.

“Wow,” I murmur, my fingers dancing over the word Lucky. “You really did it. You got it tattooed on your chest.”

“I told you before.” He breathes, warm hands cupping both sides of my face. “I want to remember what we had.

You’re my Lucky. My lucky charm. When things go bad, I have you to keep me on the right path. You’re my Lucky and I’m so fucking in love with you.”

Well, there goes my fucking heart.

“Shit,” I curse, tears filling my eyes.

Kayden blinks in surprise. “What did I do?”

“This!” I gesture to the space between us. I can feel my heart beating so loud inside of me, thumping hard in my head. “I thought I was better off without you. And then you come back and you . . . you ruin all of it. Plans of moving on.

All of them, you ruined.”

“I’m sorry?” He stares at me in confusion.

“Who am I kidding?” I laugh quietly to myself. “I never got over you. You lingered in my mind every day. I hated you for that.”
