It wasn’t horrible, but it wasn’t the most comfortable experience. Actually, this is by far the best part. The intimacy of us simply holding each other and the feel of his warmth is nice. Adam is supposed to be a ladies’ man, and I know this was my first time, but I did assume it would last a little longer. Comparing sex to a roller coaster was fitting. It’s a short-lived thrill so it would seem.

“That was…” He chuckles. “I needed… God. Thank you.” He kisses the tip of my nose. “Thank you for giving me this.”

“It was perfect.” I’m not about to tell him it was short. I don’t think any guy wants the word short mentioned in any case that concerns the bedroom.

“Yeah?”

“Yeah. So, thank you.”

Adam’s lips gently touch mine, but all too soon, he pulls away. He stands up, disposes of the condom, and then I watch as he begins picking up our discarded clothes. “My dickhead brother is going to be home soon. I better get you out of here. Plus, my parents are probably going to stumble in here, and I’m sure they’re going to be high and drunk as fuck. I don’t want anyone spoiling our night.”

I rein in my disappointment because he’s right. It is late and I’m sure Fran is going to be wondering about me. We’re silent as we get dressed, but Adam throws me flirty smiles that make me blush.

“Are you going to be okay making it back home?”

“Yeah, of course.”

Adam walks me to the back door. He gives me another kiss and then whispers against my lips, “I love you.”

Heat courses through me, and I can’t contain the grin on my face. “I love you too.”

The door opens and I hurry out into the darkness. As I’m walking along the gravel shoulder of the road, an oncoming vehicle pulls off to the side. Once I’m out of the blinding headlights, I see that it’s Ashley.

“Sugar?” he calls out.

“Yeah, it’s me.”

“Get in. I’ll give you a ride.”

“I’ll be al—”

“Dammit. I’m not letting you walk out here by yourself this late. Get in the truck.”

I huff and make my way across the road to the passenger side of the truck. I climb in and inhale his woodsy scent. I hate that I’m enjoying the warmth coming from him and how he smells after just being with his brother.

“Thank you,” I mumble.

“I’m guessing you just came from the house. With Adam.” I nod, and he shakes his head. “The dipshit couldn’t even walk you home?”

“You don’t have to drive me because Adam didn’t walk me. I told him it was fine. You’re under no obligation.”

“It’s the right thing to do, Sugar. I’m not doing it because of him.”

“That’s the most you’ve ever called me Sugar.”

“Seems to be what everyone else calls you. It’s how Fran introduces you. Would you rather I call you Serenity?”

“Either one is fine.” I can’t stop myself from smiling at the way my name sounds coming from his lips. He makes both names sound so alluring.

The truck bounces onto the path that leads up to the cabin. When my body is jostled, there’s a slight pain between my legs, and I shift in my seat. Ashley frowns over at me. “You all right?”

“Mm-hmm.”

We pull into the rocky driveway. Ashley shifts the truck into drive. I open the door and whisper another thank-you through the darkness.

“Good night, Sugar.”

A warmth spreads through me at his lowered voice. I hurry out of the truck and then run to the door of the cabin. It’s not until I’ve opened the door that I hear the truck pull away.
