‘Forty dollars, baby,’ he says.
‘Congrats,’ I say dryly, narrowing my eyes as he frowns.
‘What’s wrong?’
‘Nothing,’ I say, shaking my head, but he knows something’s up and he tucks the money into his back pocket and looks at me.
‘You wanna get out of here?’ he says. ‘Go get something to eat.’
I smile and then nod, maybe this was just a stop-off. ‘I’d like that.’
‘Let’s go,’ he says, grinning.
Ten minutes later we’re pulling into a drive-thru and my heart sinks.
I should’ve known, I sigh as he asks if I want chicken or beef, and he laughs as I lie and tell him I’m vegetarian. He doesn’t say anything else as we wait for our food and I can’t do anything but stare out of the window and wonder what the hell I’m still doing here.
I tug my phone out of my back pocket and flick on the screen, tapping Felicity’s number and typing 911 as quickly as I can, but Kyle sees and frowns.
‘What are you doing?’ he says as I hover over the send button.
‘Just texting my sister,’ I say.
‘You have a sister?’
I nod. ‘Twin.’
‘Whoa,’ he says. ‘Identical?’
I nod slower, wincing. ‘Yes.’
‘Damn, that’s fucking hot. You ever fucked?’
’No,’ I sigh, closing my eyes.
‘You ever fucked the same guy at the same time?’
‘No,’ I shake my head, waiting for the next inevitable question.
‘You want to?’
‘No. Take me home.’
‘To your sister?’ he grins, sliding his hand up my thigh.
‘Fuck off,’ I snap and slap his hand away, my other hand reaching for the door, but he’s too fast and he locks me in from the far side. I tug at the fob, pulling it up but it doesn’t budge.
‘Child lock,’ he grins, and then I go for my phone and he snatches it away and tucks it into his side pocket out of my reach. ‘Fucking chill, Mackenzie. I was just kidding.’
‘Give me my phone,’ I say, my hand out.
’No,’ he laughs, picking it back up and looking at the screen. ‘Flick? That your sister?’ he says. ‘Dumb name.’
‘Fuck you.’
‘You got a dirty mouth,’ he says, shaking his head, sliding the phone back and then unzipping his pants. ‘Let’s clean it out.’
‘Are you fucking kidding me?’ I say, blinking as he rolls his seat right back and lowers it.
