“Good idea.” I kissed his cheek, getting up to leave. I pulled his shirt back on, buttoning it up as I made my way to the door.

“And Bellezza, that was only one. You still have three left, and they’re never the same.” His eyes heated, a smirk crossing his lips as he watched me.

I sucked in a breath, not missing he’d added a number, my cheeks heating at the thought. Stumbling out the door, I fell into Sax’s arms as I did.

“Spitfire,” he breathed. His face was solemn, not even noticing what I was wearing. “I’m ready to talk.”

We headed off toward a hall I hadn’t been in when Atticus stopped us. “She’s been ordered to take a bath first. Perhaps you can get it set up and then come and see me, Sax. I have a feeling you have something to share with me as well?”

Sax stiffened, but didn’t deny Atticus’ words. He nodded, not looking back, and led me to a door. It was the most magnificent bathroom I’d ever laid eyes on. When we walked in, I wondered if this was where he’d intended all along or not.

I watched his motions as he filled the tub, adding things to the water as he did. When it was half full, he nodded for me to step in. I did as he directed, wincing when my pussy met the water as the heat licked up my body. Once I was settled, I looked up at him—my beautiful neanderthal—ready for whatever he had to share, praying it wouldn't rip my heart out.

“I have a lot of demons in my past, and I worry I’ll darken you too much, but I’d like to give you the opportunity to decide for yourself because I know I can’t live without you and I’m done running.”

Sax proceeded to tell me about his past and how he came to live with the Mascros. Through his whole story, he had a resigned look on his face, like he already knew what I would say. When he finished, he kissed my head before standing. I opened my mouth to stop him, wanting him to know what I thought.

“Not now. I need to go over some things with Mas and I want you to really think over it all and not just make a decision in the moment. Can you do that for me, Spitfire?”

Nodding, I wiped a tear, wishing I could hug him. “Okay.” Sax smiled weakly and left, and I sank down below the water, doing as he’d asked.

I thought.
