“You’re a good dog,” I whispered. The room started to blink out of focus, and I lifted my head, the movement feeling strange, my head weighing a million tons, moving in slow motion.
“Topher,” I said, but it felt like it came out in a jumble.
Movement came from the door, and I tried to look, but my head didn’t agree. Familiar hands braced my face, his pale green eyes a comfort.
“Roe, you came.”
“Of course, Lo. I need to have a talk with you and Wells, though. You’re taking years off my life. Come on, we need to get you to see the doctor.”
“Doc...tor?”
I blinked once before everything went black. I could’ve sworn I saw Dayton’s smiling face right before I shut my eyes.
