Chapter Twenty-Two

Skylar

I met Devon when he was part of my security team Justice had set up when we first returned. I took Christy’s advice and tried to move on from Justice, but it didn’t feel right. None of this has felt right, and now here I am, standing in a club he named after me with another man. Not that he wasted any time. I see the beauty on his arm tonight.

“Still the same little whore,” I hear Trevor’s voice, and I whip my head around. He’s coming back toward us, having ducked out of the security’s hands.

“What?” I hear Justice snarl.

“Oh, she’s quite the little whore,” Trevor says as tears spring to my eyes. Just as I’m about to say something, Justice moves. His fist flies through the air, slamming into Trevor’s face. He’s about to go in again when the woman on his arm pulls him back.

“You can’t do this here,” she snaps loudly. Justice nods his head when his security comes back and grabs Trevor again. This time he’s pulled away from us by more than one man, but I stay rooted in place. He’s here. Justice is here.

“Are you okay?” the woman asks, but I don’t move. I don’t speak. I can’t. He’s here. I didn’t think I’d see him again, and here he is.

“Sky, look at me,” I hear Justice’s voice as I slowly turn my head. His hands come up to cup my cheeks as I look him in the eye. “Everything’s okay, Sky.” Still, no words form.

“Let’s take her into the office,” Justice says as he wraps his arm around me and leads me toward the back. The others follow along behind us. Once we’re in the office, Justice pulls out a chair and sits me down.

“I’ll grab some water,” the pretty woman says as Devon hovers close by.

“Thanks, Darby,” he tells her. Darby. Her name is Darby, and she’s gorgeous. A lot prettier than I am. No wonder he’s with her. Tears burn the back of my eyes as the scent of his cologne makes me dizzy.

“I’ll go find a cloth,” Devon finally says. I can feel my cheeks heat, flushing from what? Him being so close?

Justice comes to kneel in front of me, and his hands come to capture my cheeks.

“Talk to me, Sky. Are you okay?” he asks once more. I can’t pull my eyes away from his. I can’t speak. What the hell do I say?

Before I can even think about anything else, Darby walks back in, passing me a bottle of water. I take a moment to look her over. She’s tall, with long legs and a beautiful face. She has long dark hair, curvy, and she’s perfect. She’s everything that would look good on his arm. Darby’s everything I’m not.

How could I be so stupid to think he’d still want me? Of course, he’s moved on. I try to shove out of the chair to get the hell out of here, but I still feel dizzy. I sway on my feet, and Justice shoots to his feet to grab me.

“Sit back down. You’re not okay,” he murmurs as I gaze up at him, helping me back into the chair.

“Is she okay?” I hear Devon’s voice and look over to where he’s coming back into the room.

“I think so. She’s dizzy,” Justice tells him.

“Here’s a damp cloth,” he offers, pressing it to my forehead. I blink rapidly, unsure what to do here. I don’t know what to say or what to do.

“Sweetie, are you alright?” The woman asks as I look between all of them.

“I need to go,” I tell them, looking to Devon.

“I’ll take you,” he says quickly. I start to stand when Justice steps in front of me to stop me from standing.

“Is that what you want?”

“I need to go,” I tell him once more.

“Do you really want to go, Sky?”

“I’ll take her straight home, Justice. Promise.” Devon tries to reassure Justice. I know he’d take me home, and I’d be safe with him.

“Yes, I need to go. Thank you, Devon,” I say as he extends his hand. I slip mine into his and let him help me to my feet. After standing for a second, I finally catch my breath and right myself.

“I’m sorry for the commotion,” I tell them.
