“Like your eyes?” she giggles.
“Yeah, I suppose that color. What’s yours?”
“Red.” She sighs and lays her head on my shoulder, slightly relaxing into me. I throw my arm around her and pull her into me as close as possible with the seats in the way.
“I never dreamt I’d own a BDSM club. When I was younger, I wanted to own nightclubs. A BDSM club never entered my head.”
“Why is that?”
“I don’t know, honestly. It was like our birthright.”
“So you have brothers and sisters?” she asks. Now I smile.
“I do. They each own a club.”
“Really? That’s interesting.” Sky seems to be enjoying our casual conversation.
“Yeah, they each specialize in their own things. We’ve grown our empires off those clubs,” I explain to her.
“I’d love to see what the other clubs look like. Your club is dark and sexy. Are theirs the same?” she asks.
“Each club has a different atmosphere. I’d like to show you them one day,” I tell her. She smiles and nods her head before laying it back against me.
We’ve changed planes three times. Three different airports, three different cities. It’s exhausting, but I know it needs to be done to be safe. That doesn’t mean I have to like it.
“So you and Christy are close?” I ask her.
“She’s my rock. I’d be lost without her. Christy is the one person who can talk me down when I think my head is going to explode. I wish I could have called her and let her know I’m okay.”
“Soon, I hope,” I tell her.
“She’s been my best friend for as long as I can remember.”
“I’m glad you have someone like her on your side.”
“Don’t you have a good friend?”
“Rodney, but it’s more club business than actual friendship,” I tell her. Just as she’s about to say more, the pilot comes over the speaker, announcing we’re about to land, and I can’t thank God enough.
