A tightness in my chest clenched down like a giant wolf had just sat on me. Everything faded away except for the rage inside me. My wolf pushed a little closer to the edge of my consciousness and I could almost connect with her.
“You knew? You knew that I would never go free?”
She laughed at me, and the tightness dissipated into pure anger.
Maybe I couldn’t get my claws to come out, but I didn’t care. I grabbed rocks below my feet and hurled them at her. I was momentarily satisfied at the scream.
“You knew that your father never intended to let me go?”
I grabbed more rocks before she seemed to problem solve.
“Oh, get over it. No one wants you.”
She shifted back into wolf form and I was certain she planned to charge me and probably kill me, but at the moment a loud and horrible squeal of pain distracted us.
We turned around to see the largest of the wolves, Devon, with his mouth clamped around the neck of the smaller wolf. My old alpha dangled motionless.
Nessa’s wolf whined, and I wanted to laugh at how it wasn’t all that much different from her human form, but as I turned back to her, I was just fast enough to hold up an arm. I screamed as her teeth sunk into my flesh.
CHAPTER15
Devon
The metallic tasteof his blood ran down my throat. It was done. The solution to this entire mate issue was done and my wolf had no regrets. The issue was that he wasn’t paying attention. We couldn’t keep her safe with these assholes around and we would take one matter into our jaws at a time until they were all dead if we needed to.
The sound of Kiara had my attention. My wolf turned to where she’d last been and saw Nessa in wolf form charging her. I snarled with her father’s body still in my mouth, that didn’t stop that stupid bitch from sinking her teeth into Kiara’s arm.
The thudding beat of my heart drowned out everything around me except her, Kiara. I dropped the asshole that had started this all and charged Nessa. My wolf reached for her, claws extended ready to rip and tear at her. She yelped and fell back, but not before I snarled at her.
Her wolf whimpered and rolled showing me her belly. Like submission would make a difference.
My wolf slowly moved forward, step by step, showing her exactly why I was alpha and why she couldn’t control us.
She shifted, and then her whimpers turned into pleas as my wolf slowly stalked her. Everything within us wanted her dead for what she’d done to our Kiara. For what her pack had done to so many innocent females.
The awful noises from her mouth pissed off my wolf, annoying both of us at the same time. I took control and shifted.
“If I were you, I would work out where you want to be buried,” I said to the bitch.
I wanted to scream at her, no I wanted to gut her but then I heard the sound of Kiara. I turned to her as she spoke.
“Shit. This isn’t good,” she said.
“Let me see,” I said, taking her arm in my hands. I watched over my shoulder, trying to keep an eye on Nessa.
“We need to get the bleeding to stop, unless your wolf is able to help? Can you shift?”
She shook her head, and I swore under my breath.
Rustling in the underbrush caught my attention. There were more wolves showing up. The sounds of the fight alone would catch attention, but the scent of blood was a beacon. This would end my celebration, that was certain.
I turned my attention back to Kiara. There was blood everywhere and yet she still smiled.
“It looks worse than it feels. I swear.”
Logic said I should stay and deal with the fallout. The bodies of wolves littered the immediate area, and that wasn’t a good sign, unless you were me. But there were pack members here from Cripple Creek.
I watched Kiara grow more and more pale. Fuck, her wolf needed to show a presence. Kiara wavered, and that was it.
