“You know we are all adults sitting here getting drunk and acting like teenagers, right?” Kayla grinned.

“Yes. Don’t care. Is it him?” Lauren demanded.

Kayla nodded.

“Well, don’t make us wait. What did he say?” Jenna scooted closer to Lauren who was now almost touching Kayla.

“I haven’t opened it yet.”

“Wait, which him is it? App him or real him?” Catherine asked.

Kayla rolled her eyes. They were really behaving like kids, but she couldn’t deny that she enjoyed it. “Real him.” She unlocked her phone and went to her messages. “He’s just asking if I’m having a good time.”

“He wants to come rescue you,” Lauren sang out and clapped her hands together. “You should say no and see what he says.”

“I can’t do that. Then he will think it’s weird when see each other again.” It wouldn’t work well, but she was curious now if her friends were right.

“Ask him if he was going to kiss you the other day,” Catherine suggested.

Kayla’s jaw dropped as she faced her friend. “Have you lost your mind?”

Catherine shrugged. “Up for debate for a while now.”

“I can’t ask him that. It will be weird when I see him again. No.”

“You don’t have to do anything you don’t want to, but I think you should do it,” Jenna said in her soothing tone that Kayla was getting used to.

Kayla stared at her phone. “What if he says no?” Her question was quiet, more for herself than anyone else.

“Again, what if he doesn’t?” Lauren added.

“You act like you weren’t nervous with Jake,” Catherine teased. “I seem to recall you panicking when you found out who he was.”

“He was literally everything I told you I didn’t want.” Lauren folded her arm across her chest.

“Oh, stop. It all worked out, and you’re so much happier than you were just a few months ago.”

A grin spread across Lauren’s face. “It did work out well.”

“I don’t know that I’ve been thanked yet.” Catherine sipped her drink.

“Shut up.” Lauren threw a throw pillow at Catherine, hitting her in the face.

As they laughed and joked, Kayla stared at her phone considering her next move. Should she ask him? She wasn’t sure at all.

“Shots!” Catherine yelled. “A little liquid courage for our friend here.”

She set her phone down and followed everyone to the kitchen.

Lauren stood next to her at the bar. “I’m just giving you a hard time, you know? I wouldn’t be at all upset if you didn’t text him. I get a little bold when I’m drinking.”

Kayla squeezed her friend’s hand. “I appreciate it.”

Catherine poured them all a shot and lined them up on the bar. “On three, ladies.”

Catherine counted up and they all took a shot, everyone coughing after. After everyone recovered, they refilled their drinks and went back to the sofa.

“I’m gonna do it,” Kayla announced.
