Kayla felt her alcohol-flushed face light up with embarrassment. “Shh,” she fussed at her friend.

Lauren waved away her concerns. “They all know. Jenna might not, actually.” Lauren turned to face Jenna. “Did you know that Kayla is doing a blind date with Evan?”

“No way! That’s so awesome. You guys are such a cute couple,” Jenna gushed.

“She was mine and Jake’s pick,” Lauren said proudly.

“He doesn’t know it’s me,” Kayla reminded her friends.

“Clearly. If he did, you wouldn’t be here with us tonight. You’d be at his place doing the nasty.” Catherine grabbed a handful of popcorn and shoved it in her mouth.

“Doing the nasty?” Lauren laughed. “How old are you?”

“I’m too young to be this deprived,” Catherine muttered.

“If you weren’t so hung up on Ryker, then maybe you would date anyone else. Do a blind date of your own, let the app pick.” Lauren had somehow called her out and then soothed it over with an idea all in one go.

Kayla stood, wobbled, and sat back down. “He really doesn’t know it’s me. I need to tell you guys something though.”

All three women leaned toward her.

“You can’t tell anyone. Not even your significant others.”

“I swear,” Jenna said.

“Lips are sealed,” said Lauren.

“I don’t even have anyone to tell,” Catherine pouted. “I won’t tell anyone, even fictional ones.”

Kayla rolled her eyes. Catherine was a wild ride of emotions when she was drinking. She was usually upbeat, but the mood swings tonight were going to give Kayla whiplash.

“He almost kissed me the other night,” she confided.

“I thought you hadn’t been on a date yet?” Lauren asked.

“No, not the app me, the real me.” Kayla pulled her legs up on the sofa beside her, tucking the throw blanket around them. “We haven’t. Then he heard you talking to me about my date and got weird.”

Lauren threw her head back as she laughed. “Because this is a really good idea.”

“Oh, he really likes you,” Jenna teased.

“I feel bad about the date though, like I’m lying to him by not telling him it’s me when I know it’s him,” Kayla finally admitted out loud.

“Girl, he is already jealous over your date with him.” Catherine tried and failed not to giggle. “That means he’s got it bad for you. He’ll be excited to find out that it’s you.”

“What if he’s mad?” Kayla asked.

“What if he’s not? Just let it roll. It will be a good thing.”

Kayla shrugged, she wasn’t so sure about that.

“What if we set you up with Ryker?” Lauren asked.

They went back and forth and Kayla took the time to think about what they had said. Was Evan really into her like that? Probably not. He was likely just mad that she hadn’t confided in him about her date like he had about his.

Her phone dinged from the couch next to her, and she quickly picked it up, finding a text from Evan.

“Is it him?” Lauren bounced on the sofa.
