I breathed in relief.

Dominic looked at his watch.

“You should both get to bed.” He glared at Weston. “We have a lot to do tomorrow.”

Weston unlocked the door to his room and handed me the key as he held the door open.

“Have a good night,” he said and motioned with one hand for me to walk through the door.

Confused, I did as he insinuated and took the key from his open hand.

“Goodnight,” I said to both of them and closed the door behind me. Leaning against it. I could hear the faint conversation taking place in the hall.

“What the fuck are you up to, Weston?” Dominic demanded in a hushed tone.

“I’m here to support my sister and the family. Just as my contract says.” Weston’s voice had a hint of sarcasm.

“I better not see you trying to get into your ex-assistant’s pants again. You have a lot on the line. Don’t fuck it up.”

And with that, I heard Dominic’s door shut.

Again?

Did Dominic Myles recognize me after all? He really made it seem like he never knew me. That asshole.

He hadn’t changed a bit.

The instant urge to open the door and confront him was thwarted the second I thought of sweet Lucy. This was her time. I wasn’t going to be the one to ruin this for her by getting into it with her lousy father.

Or sleeping with her brother…again.

No. I needed to keep this as clean as possible. Soon the Myles family would be out of my hair, and I could return to my slow-paced, easy life in Cedar Grove.

I just needed to get through this weekend first.

I opened the door and peeked into the hall to see if Weston was still there, but he was gone. My stomach sank, already missing him. But it was for the best that we kept our distance.

I pulled out my phone to send a text.

Me:I miss you.

A few minutes passed and I got a reply.

Muriel:Miss you too, darlin’. How are things going with Lucy and her family?

Me:Uh…just as expected. But I’m here for her. Gotta make up for lost time.

Muriel:Keep your head up, baby girl. They might be Myles, but YOU are a Miller. ;)

Muriel:And keep me posted on all the happenings out there!

I smiled at my mama’s constantly uplifting attitude despite everything she was going through. And knowing her, if I did keep her in the loop, half the town would also be in the loop. So, I withheld the whole Weston debacle for now and opted to call it a night.

My last thought before I passed out was wondering where Weston decided to spend the night since he technically gave me his room.
