“So, you teach me how to cope,” she said.
He looked pained. “Do you hear yourself?”
“Please let me decide what I can handle,” she said earnestly.
“And when you decide you can’t?”
“I want you, and you can push all you want.” Resting her cheek on his chest, she proclaimed, “Now shut up because you’re stuck with me.”
“Stuck with you, huh?”
“Yes.”
“I can probably do that.”
“Better do better than probably because I’ll neuter you, you tomcat,” she said, smiling. She slid her hand lower, slipping it beneath the pants’ elastic band as the material began to tent.
He gasped with a full-body jerk as her hand reached its goal and firmly grasped him. “Insatiable, Day.”
Leaning forward, she bit his nipple, which drew a low rumble of delight from him while her hand still worked him, sliding up and down the hard length of him. His hand at her back grasped her buttock. Licking where she’d bit, she reminded him, “I thought I was supposed to be destroyed tonight.”
“You won’t be walking anywhere tomorrow.”
Smiling up at him, she asked, “Promise?”
Groaning playfully, he grasped her arms and pulled her on top of him, setting the hammock swinging erratically. She squeaked and grabbed on to the ropes over his head, her thighs grasping tightly around his hips, her breasts dancing on top of him.
“That’s what I’m talking about,” he murmured in appreciation, reaching down to free himself from his pants as she spread out over him. “Kiss me.”
Eager to comply, her attention was diverted by a flash of lights. She froze, tensing. Sensing the change in her, Mac asked, “Cassidy?”
“Oh, no!” she called out, cringing down in Mac’s embrace as a vehicle roared up and parked next to Mac’s Scout.
Mac twisted around to look over his shoulder. “Shit.”
“I’m naked!” she hissed out in a panic against his ear, her face hidden against his neck.
“Fuck’s sake,” he cursed. In an expert move for someone accustomed to the contraption they were in, and using his sheer strength, he maneuvered them out of it while managing to shield her from their visitor.
He walked her backward toward the screen door, body-blocking her as the car door shut. He opened the door for her to run inside.
“Shirt.” She pointed to the shirt on the porch, her other arm shielding her breasts as she stood just inside the door.
“Get a new one,” he instructed.
She didn’t argue. Whirling, she ran into his darkened bedroom.

ALIVE DAY
“Youdidn’tthinktocall first?” Mac greeted irritably as he watched Grady approach.
Grady pointed out, “You should’ve figured by the earlier phone call that I’d be coming by sooner rather than later.”
“Later would have been preferred.”
