"I wanted to tell you how amazing I thought you were."

I knew she was referring to the time she'd come in here, and I'd been an asshole to her.

"I'm sorry for the way I treated you," I said, and not for the first time.

"You already apologized; there's no need to do that again," she replied,

"There is. I was such a mean to you. And you never seemed to hold it against me."

I led her toward the building model I'd been working on for the past few months.

She gasped softly as she took a look at the house; the last time she'd seen it, I'd barely begun.

"It's so beautiful. You are so good at what you do; I get jealous sometimes." She said, and I smiled.

"You're an excellent nurse too, you know. Given the patience you had." I said to her, and she smiled.

"I love the review." She said before she turned back to the model on the desk.

"Is this for a family or a single man?" she asked, and I turned back to the house. I had not thought about it before, but now that she pointed it out, I imagined a family inside this house.

"I haven't thought about it?" I said to her, and she nodded.

"What do you think?" I asked.

"That it's for a bachelor. It does not seem practical for a family, especially one with plans to raise children there."

I listened as she pointed out the reason the house belonged to a bachelor. Then, I mentally collected the ideas she made about the things the home would need to be more family-oriented.

She made a lot of valid points, and I wondered why I'd never thought about it that way.

She was still talking animatedly when I walked behind her to wrap my hands around her waist. She stiffened for only a few seconds before she relaxed in my arms.

"You should have been an architect and not a nurse," I said to her, and she gave a chagrined smile.

"I did not mean to downplay your work."

"You didn't. You made a lot of valid points. I'll take them under advisement."

I said, and she smiled, relaxing even further into me. My hands brushed her hair away from her neck as I nibbled soft kisses on it.

"What are you doing?" She asked although I could tell she was smiling.

"What does it look like?"

I turned her slowly until she faced me before I leaned down to press my lips to hers in a soft kiss.

The kiss quickly progressed; soon, our clothes fell away, and all thoughts of buildings were forgotten.

Chapter 16

Vanessa

Lateatnight,Ilay awake in my room, staring up at the elaborate ceiling. All day, I’d thought of nothing else; of no one else but Christian, and I was getting sick of myself. I had crossed a line with him. One I could never return from and it was all because I could not control myself around him.

He had shown me a part of himself I never knew existed and, coupled with my already growing attraction to him, it was irresistible.

I texted Leila two hours ago. We’d told each other goodnight, and I laid down to sleep, but it seemed sleep was very far from me. After tossing and turning, I couldn't bear it anymore; so I decided to go outside for some fresh air.
