Smith comes behind me, kneading my shoulders as we watch them live out this moment. After a few minutes, Nelson grabs the phone.

“Congratulations!” Smith and I say at the same time.

“Oh thank you,” Mom says in a fit of tears. “Well, now. I got to get it together,” she says. Nelson has an arm wrapped around her.

“We’ll have to celebrate when you two come home,” Smith says. My mom is still in shock, so Nelson nods his head.

“We’d love to. You kids have a Merry Christmas.”

“You too,” Smith says.

“Love you, Mama,” I say. She beams and shows me the ring one more time.

“Love you too, Merry Christmas.”

Smith wipes the tears from my eyes and kisses my forehead.

“You okay, baby?” he asks.

“Yeah, I’m just so happy for her, she deserves this and Nelson seems like such a good guy.”

“He really does. And you know how much I care about your mom. I didn’t really want to have to beat the man up.” I laugh, tapping against his chest. “Ready for dinner-fast?” he says.

“Always ready.”

He hands me a stack of pancakes loaded with strawberries and whipped cream with a side of bacon. He also pours me a glass of orange juice. There’s champagne on the table, but with how upset my stomach was earlier, I don’t drink anything.

As the flaky goodness hits my tongue, I hum. “This is so good, thank you.”

“Always,” he says, eating his meal across from me. “I was thinking after dinner I could set up the fire and we could watch a movie?”

I know there will be no actual movie watching. I nod my head and smile around my fork. “Sounds perfect.”

Camieatsallherfood, and as much as I try to stuff her plate with more, she insists she’s full.

“Let me go grab some of your blankets and we can set up on the couch.” Grabbing the cow print one, as well as the soft cream knotted one that Liv got her for her birthday, I come back into the living room and put them on the couch. Cami comes and sits, bundling herself in the soft blankets.

I’ve never had a wooden fireplace, but I’m going to sit here and act like I have a fucking clue about what I’m doing. The logs were already set out, and I arrange them and grab the fire starter and strike the long stick along the bottom of the box. It lights and I place it between two logs.

The logs begin to catch quickly… a little too quickly. The smoke ventilates into the house, and Cami and I both start coughing.

“Did you open the flue?” she asks.

“What the fuck is a flue?” I say, looking around at the stone fireplace.

Cami runs over, her blanket covering her face. “Open the damper!”

“The fucking what?” How the fuck is a fireplace complicated? Cami flips a small latch and the smoke finally gathers up into the chimney. However, the living room is still smoky as fuck.

Both of our eyes are watering as we both open up as many windows as possible, trying to ventilate the log cabin. This is not what I had planned tonight. The scent of smoke is thick in the living room, but thankfully it’s going up the chimney now. Who had ever heard of a flue before?

Cami is coughing and I’ve gotta get her out of the house. It’s cold outside, but as soon as I see the hot tub I smile. “Hot tub?” I ask.

She coughs but nods. No other homes are for miles as she rips off her clothes. A little too hastily, as I have to get the code to unlock the tub. Something about bears getting in the hot tub. Cami is shivering as I unlock the padlock and remove the top. I turn the dials, making sure it isn’t too hot. Cami’s arms are wrapped around her tits as she cuddles herself for warmth. I quickly help her in.

She winces from the change in temperature but slowly melts into the warm, bubbly bliss. It doesn’t take me long to shed my clothes and follow suit. Leaving our clothes in a pile and sliding into the warmth.
