“How about a week from tomorrow? I have to get all the permits and everything together, so I’ll need a bit of time,” I said.
Julian nodded. “Sounds good. So where are these amazing steaks you were telling me about?”
I brought Julian to my backyard and lifted the BBQ lid. “They should almost be ready.”
He took a whiff. “There’s nothing like the smell of BBQ steak.”
“Unless it’s BBQ chicken or the smell of bacon,” I corrected him. “Let’s eat while we find more ways to make money.”
When Julian left that night, it was pretty dark out, so I doubted anyone at the house next door saw their arch enemy leave in the cover of darkness.

Darcy
“Darcy, there’s some woman at the door for you,” Addison told me as she walked into my room.
“I’m not expecting anyone. Did she say who she was?” I asked.
“No, sorry. She said you were expecting her, but I left her outside. She looks like a hooker.”
That’s odd. I’m not expecting anyone. Who could that possibly be?I went to the front door and opened it. I would have to let Addison know not to open the door to this woman in the future. She deserved the door to be slammed in her face after the trouble she’d caused with Evan and Lila.
“What are you doing here, Candiss?” I now understood Addison’s description of her as a hooker.
I couldn’t believe I would have to put up with her shit on my nice Sunday. What a way to ruin it.
“Can we sit in your backyard or somewhere private?” Candiss asked. She looked like she hadn’t slept in days and was strung out on drugs as her pupils were dilated.
“I’ll get my keys, and we can go across the road to the park.” I refused to let her in my house. She seemed fine with it, so I went back inside, closing the door in her face.
“Who is that?” Addison asked, peeking out the front curtains.
“It’s Candiss, and she is not a quality person,” I explained.
“That’s putting it lightly,” Remi said from the kitchen.
“Why, what did she do?” Addison asked, her eyes growing wide with curiosity.
“I’ll let Remi tell you since, apparently, I’m going to the park with her. Keep watch out the window in case she pulls a knife or a gun on me,” I said to Remi.
“I’m on it,” she answered.
I grabbed my keys and went out the door, walking across the street with Candiss. This is ridiculous. Why am I doing this? What can she possibly want with me?
“So, what is this about, Candiss?” I just wanted to get to the point, so that we could get this over with as quickly as possible.
“What is going on between you and Thane?” She turned to face me.
I raised my eyebrow.Really? This is what this is about? Shoot me now.“I don’t see how that is any of your business.” We stood about five feet from each other and stared at each other awkwardly.
“Why were you leaving his place so early in the morning the other day?” she asked.
“Candiss, this is pointless. I’m not telling you any of my personal business. I’m going home now,” I told her and started to walk away.
“Don’t you dare walk away from me when I’m talking to you,” Candiss yelled after me.
I turned to face her. “Go home, Candiss, and stop acting like a child.”
