I crouched down and wrapped my free arm around her. “It’s OK, baby—Daddy’s here.”
Daddy was there. And he was pissed.
The two remaining men formed up on Jason, trying to come at him from both sides. For a moment, I worried they might be too much for him.
But those concerns vanished the moment Jason started moving.
He was fast—so fast I couldn’t believe a man his size could move that quickly. He sidestepped, raising his foot and driving his expensive Italian leather dress shoe right into one of the men’s face. There was a “thwack” sound, and the man went flying, stumbling back until he slammed into the wall behind him.
The other man now looked totally panicked. He clearly hadn’t been expecting to be so outmatched by Jason. He tried to go on the offensive, raising his fist in the air like a wild man and rushing toward Jason.
He didn’t have much luck. Jason deftly stepped aside, and the man’s momentum carried him straight past. Jason stopped him mid-dash by grabbing his shoulder, turning him, and chopping down hard on the top of his chest. The man’s air supply was cut off, and his hands on his neck, he dropped to the ground.
“Holy sh—” I stopped myself, not wanting Willa to hear the word.
Jason took a look at the men, making sure they were down for the count. Then he hurried over to the two of us, dropping to his knees in front of Willa.
“Are you both OK?” he asked.
“We’re…fine,” I said, still in a state of disbelief.
Jason gave a quick nod. “Good. Because we’re going home. Now.”
