Which is why my fascination and attraction to April was unexpected, and somewhat foolish.
Not to mention that both Shauna and April were my employees—fraternizing with employees always seemed like a recipe for disaster.
I’d made it clear in the past to Shauna that nothing would happen between the two of us. Not that this prevented her from still trying.
“Not a good idea, Shauna.”
“Sure, sure. Can’t blame a girl for trying though, right?” She cleared her throat and tucked her hair behind her ear. “Anyway, I’ll take a look at your appointments for the rest of the day, see what you’ve got lined up.”
“Sounds good.”
She departed, and I made myself an espresso, the drink ready just in time for Willa and April to come back downstairs, Willa changed out of her school uniform.
“Keep in touch,” I said to April as she passed. “And bring her back in time for dinner.”
“Will do,” said April.
The two of them bid their goodbyes as I sipped my coffee and gave them a wave.
I was more than curious to see how they would get along. If she managed to help Willa come out of her shell, she’d be worth her weight in gold.
But there was still the issue of April finding out about the true nature of my company. I vowed to make sure that didn’t happen. After all, her safety depended on it.
