Overwhelming desire crashed into me as I grabbed her chin and shoved my thumb into her mouth. Maybe it wasn’t what she expected, but she seemed to love it, all the same, releasing a mewl of surrender that sent me spinning. Strength billowed in my core. The black wolf howled expectantly as I ran my thumb over her tongue.

She came undone so quickly. Her brows furrowed together and her body responded easily to my command, bending to my will. I guided her to my lap and watched her eyelids bat furiously when she noticed my erection. Every inch of me burned with desire for her, yet I knew better than to push my limits—ourlimits.

Still, I wanted her. She wanted me. What were we going to do about that?

I grinned deviously.I’ll just tease her instead…

Chapter 10 - Rose

Matéo traced my lower lip with his thumb. I was helpless to his charm, utterly bombarded by the desire to obey every instruction from him, verbal or otherwise. It was something that went bone-deep, a core belief that my wolf insisted was true. This was not only right, it wasembeddedin my DNA. Everything we did together was because we weresupposedto do it together.

And I had never felt that in my life.

Even now as the threat of his destruction lurked around the corner, as my feelings mounted to an intimidating height, I couldn’t deny my attraction to him. And I hoped that was all it was, a mere attraction.

Because that would make it easier to accept his absence when all this was over.

“I need sleep, fleur,” he whispered, his voice husky and rich with lust. “As do you.”

“You need to eat.”

His lips curled up into his cheeks. “There’s only one thing I want and I can’t have it right now.”

My thighs twitched and my slit ached for a release. If I didn’t have him soon, I wasn’t sure what would happen to my body. But he wasn’t ready. I wasn’t ready. Neither of us were recovered enough for what he was alluding to.

“Matéo,” I whimpered. His thumb teased the tip of my tongue, sending my eyes into the back of my skull. “You should rest.”

“Will you help me rest, Nurse? Will you make me comfortable?”

I mewled. “Yes, sir…”

Standing took extra effort. My knees felt like they were about to give out, but I managed to steady myself, to remove the tray and folders from the bed. Screw dinner and research—all I wanted to do was hold him to my chest where he could hear my heart. It was beating so fast.

And I knew it was about to beat faster.

After turning out the lamps, I crawled over the sheets and got him comfortable, checked his bandages, smoothed my fingers over his shaved head. His skin twitched wherever my fingers roamed. I could only imagine what the rest of him would do if my hand happened to travel south.

Not now, I warned myself.Tomorrow. Sleep first.

The moment my head hit the pillow, sleep came. And I let it swallow me up just as I had allowed Matéo to do the same.

Morning came too quickly for my taste. It should have been a happy greeting because it was Friday, and Fridays were always the best workdays, but all I felt was irritated and sore. My lower back ached from lifting Matéo. My thighs quivered as I sat up. My slit tingled with leftover desire.

Everything felt awful.

Until I set eyes on him.

His face appeared angelic in his slumber without whatever had plagued him yesterday. Even with the scar tissue and rugged shadows on his cheeks, he looked like a heavenly creature. All of that grumpiness, that guarded mystery, fell away in such a vulnerable state.

And I swore I would never take advantage of it.

When I reached out to stroke his cheek, his eyebrows twitched. He grumbled something and then rolled over, taking the sheets with him.

I rolled my eyes while thinking,So much for morning cuddles.

As soon as I swung my legs over the bed and stood up, my bladder squealed. I ran to the bathroom and handled my business, sighing after brushing my teeth. Matéo was in the same position when I returned, but his face appeared much more haunted, doused with fearful anticipation.
