If he had a knife or gun, I’d be dead, but luckily, he was unarmed—unhinged but fucking unarmed. Thank the Lord.

“Sabbath, stop!” Shasta shrieked, her shoulder all patched up from her fight. It didn’t look like it fazed her at all, she was more focused on Sabbath kicking the shit out of me.

The second he heard her voice, all punching stopped. He immediately straightened, rushing towards Shasta who was staring at him with horror in her eyes.

“Baby, you’re here!” The way he turned off his rage was unnerving. It was like he had two personalities, one filled with rage while the other stared at that woman like she was his whole fucking world. He closed the distance between them, ready to embrace the scared and frightened female who wore his cut, standing in the doorway.

Snyder, Skid, and Warrant appeared behind her, looking at me laying pathetically on the floor, blood leaking from my lip.

I looked like such a bitch.

Snyder raised an eyebrow, but not before he stepped between Sabbath and Shasta.

“Move!” Sabbath ordered.

“Not until you calm the fuck down.”

“I’m not going to ask you again, Snyder. Move, or I’ll fucking make you move. Just like I did him.”

He motioned to me, now fumbling to stand upright after the beat down I just took.

“What the fuck is wrong with you, Sabbath? Have you completely lost your goddamn mind? Wasp is your brother, why the fuck are you beating him like he’s your fucking enemy?”

“Stay the fuck out of it.”

“No. I’m tired of this shit. I want to know what the fuck is going on, and why you’re suddenly losing your shit on everyone?”

He refused to look at anyone but Shasta, the woman he had ignored for almost a week. The woman who obviously was no longer his by the way Snyder was protecting her. When did this change of loyalty happen? How had I not seen it before?

“Baby, please. We need to talk. I need you.”

Snyder stood his ground. “Shasta, why don’t you go back to Ramona’s apartment?”

“NO!” Sabbath raged. “She’s my girl, so she stays with me.”

“She’s not your girl anymore, Sabbath. Don’t you see? She’s fucking afraid of you. You scare the shit out of her. Hell, you scare the shit out of all of us right now.”

The way his back bristled like a werewolf shifting into a hairy beast chilled my bones.

“She’s my woman, Snyder! Not you or anyone else in this club can take that away from me. I patched her in as my bitch. She wears my fucking cut on her back. That means she’s mine.”

He held out a hand for Shasta to take.

“Come on, baby. Show them who you belong to.” She looked at his hand with great indecision, like she wasn’t sure what she should do. In one aspect he was right. She did belong to him, but all of us could tell that she no longer felt the same way about him that she did before.

“Shasta, come on. Show them you’re Sabbath’s girl.”

It was like something inside her switched the second those words left his lips, because her brow arched and her mouth pulled into an angry sneer. She took a step back, almost cowering into Warrant who stood behind her.

“That’s where you’re wrong...” she said quietly. “I never belonged to Sabbath.” She met his eyes and there was an utter sadness in them I couldn’t quite define. My heart literally ached for the turmoil bouncing around inside of her. “I belonged to Adam. And we both know that Adam died a long time ago.”

Without another word she turned, quickly running from the room before he could grab her.

“SHASTA!” he shouted. He tried to sprint out after her, but Clash and Snyder stood in his way.

“Let her go,” Snyder urged. “You’re in no frame of mind to talk to her right now.”

Before Sabbath had a chance to fight back, Shasta’s horrific scream came from just outside the clubhouse.
