My sleepy mind gets lost in what happened yesterday. How Matteo was on his knees behind me, making me see stars.

It was strange, at first, especially being in such a vulnerable position, but once Matteo started licking me, I couldn’t focus on anything else. It wasn’t anything like I expected it to be; it was an absolutely earth-shattering experience.

If my dad ever finds out about this, we might both be killed.

That possibility extinguishes some of the warmth in my body, but not the lingering energy of reliving the sexy times in my head, as well as the conversation we had last night. The way he opened up to me was surprising, but in a good way. I’m elated I got some answers, and it’s comforting to have someone else on my side.

Ally has been my only friend, my only companion and confidante for so long, that it’s still unfamiliar territory for me to suddenly have another person in my life who isn’t there due to my dad’s orders.

Tears burn the backs of my eyes, but I shake my head and slide the covers back. It’s too early for a meltdown.

Instead, I hop out of bed and go through my morning routine in the bathroom. Most of my hair has fallen out of the bun overnight, so I fix it and tie it in a new one before getting dressed in leggings, a tank top, and a hoodie over it. The fall weather has officially arrived, so mornings and evenings have mood swings and can get a bit frosty.

I remember I wanted to check my phone, so I grab it from the dresser. My heart beats a wild tune when I see a message from Ally. That witch. I still can’t believe she kept such a big secret from me.

Ally: Niko said I’m coming home in two weeks. Can’t wait to catch up. Miss you. Xoxo

Niko, huh?

Little liar.

I dial her number, but it sends me straight to voicemail after one ring. A couple of seconds later, a text message pops up.

Ally: Sorry, I can’t talk right now. Too many ears listening.

Me: You have some major explaining to do, Ally. If what I heard is true, you’re in so much trouble.

I’m just about to leave my messages, as three small dots dance across the bottom of the screen.

My heart skips a beat as another message pops up.

Ally: I’m so sorry. It’s such a mess and so beyond complicated, and I didn’t want to drag you into it.

Me: You owe me a minimum of ten pounds of chocolate for this.

Ally: I’ll buy you a hundred as long as you forgive me. I’m really sorry.

I inhale deeply. I know she wanted to protect me, that’s Ally in a nutshell, so I can’t hold this against her. At least I can try not to.

Me: I know you are.

Ally: Did Matteo tell you?

Me: He did.

There’s really no point in lying to her about that.

Ally: Are you doing okay? He’s treating you well, right?

Am I okay? And is he treating me well? Why do those questions feel so loaded?

Me: A lot has happened, but yeah, I’m okay.

Ally: Good, I’m glad. I’d hate to have to kick his ass otherwise.

Me: I’ll kick his butt if he misbehaves. I watched a boxing match, so I’ve learned a thing or two.

Ally replies with about twenty laughing emojis, and I have to chuckle.
