After inhaling the last bite of my sandwich, I drink the rest of the water and stand by the window for a few minutes. Large trees line the property, slightly swaying in the evening breeze. It’s so different from the busy city skyline, incredibly soothing.

And your dad isn’t around to tell you what you can and can’t do.

The thought circles around in my head, getting louder and louder, bringing a sort of lightness with it that nestles in my chest.

Maybe coming here wasn’t such a bad idea.

Not wanting to overthink it anymore, I head to the bathroom to pee, then inspect the toiletry bags Luna packed for me. When I’m done unpacking, I stare at the bottles, containers, and jars on the counter. Every single item is exactly what I have at home. All of my favorite products. How’s that possible? She could have contacted my dad, but I doubt he would have taken the time to go through my bathroom products. Not even the staff would have done that.

This is exactly how Matteo finds me, staring at the wide array of items with pursed lips and a blank stare.

“Why do you look like you’ve seen a ghost?”

I meet his gaze in the mirror. “Uh, I just unpacked the bags and . . . and everything’s the same as I have back home.”

He tilts his head to the side, like he doesn’t understand the problem. “And you don’t like it anymore?”

I blink at him and raise my eyebrows. “Matteo, your sister bought me the same exact items as I have back home at my house. Did she pay my dad a visit or is she secretly a witch or something?”

“No visit and no witch.”

I let that sink in for a moment, but nope, that information doesn’t help . . . not at all. “How exactly does she know all of my favorites then?”

“By hacking your data,” he says this with a straight face and so nonchalantly that it takes my brain a few seconds to process.

She hacked my data? What the hell?

Then Matteo starts to take off his clothes.

Chapter6

Matteo

Gemma watches me while I take off my shirt first, followed by my pants and socks, leaving me in only my boxer briefs, which I keep on. For now, at least. They do nothing to hide my hard dick, but I don’t give a fuck.

No matter how hard I try not to want this woman, my body has other ideas, even if it makes things complicated.

Having her all to myself without any distractions isn’t helping either. But she’s injured and needs to heal. If I fucked her now, I’d only cause her pain. And I’m not that much of an asshole.

She finally manages to snap her gaze away from my body, but not until after getting a good eyeful at my naked skin, her gaze slowing down at my tattoos. “What . . . what are you doing?”

“Helping you shower.”

She shakes her head. “I can do that myself.”

“I’ll stay here then to make sure you won’t slip and crack your head open.”

Her chest rises in quick succession, and she glances around the room, probably hoping someone magically appears and saves her from this situation. “Well, then you can wait outside the door like you did last time.”

“You mean the time where you were holding on to it so hard that you almost broke off the counter?”

Her eyes narrow to slits, and I suppress a chuckle. This woman’s attitude keeps surprising me. I wasn’t lying to her when I said she’s not anything like I thought she’d be, or rather, like her dad made her out to be. Like she’s his little doll he can do with as he pleases.

If things were different, I’d put a bullet in his head for imprisoning her like this. Does he really think he tamed her? Can’t he see that all he’s ever been able to do is mask who she is? Her personality? From the second I met her in that hotel room, I saw the eyes of a caged animal: the uncertainty and the fire. The girl who was yearning for a different life than the one that was molded for her. I wanted to corrupt her because I knew it would be just as fun for her too.

And maybe I will. But first she needs to get better.

“Come on, passerotta. I won’t touch you, not until you beg me for it.” My dick gives a little twitch as the flames in her eyes ignite.
