I gasped, and Jenner’s eyes grew large.

“I can’t believe she called you ‘da’! It took her forever to call me ‘mama.’”

Jenner puffed out his chest and smirked. “She has my genes. So, she’s a super smart girl.”

Now it was time for the big moment.

“Would you like to hold her?”

The people who fell in love with Jenni were always eager to hold her, while the ones who didn’t care about her or about children rarely wanted to. How would Jenner react?

“Can I?”

“She’s your daughter. Of course you can... anytime you want.”

The look on his face said it all—the man was already in love with his little girl. He held out his hands, and I gently placed Jenni into his embrace.

For a second, uncertainty etched his features, but within seconds, Jenni reached up and pulled his hair. She wasn’t gentle. That girl could easily win a tug-of-war contest with anyone five times her size.

He winced, and she laughed. I sometimes got the sneaking suspicion that Jenni enjoyed watching people suffer. Most of the time she was the sweetest, but every so often, she’d let her spicy side out, and it was painful.

“She’s got a grip. I’m thinking about baseball in her future.”

I rolled my eyes. “She’s a baby. We can think about that in a few years, but now, let’s just enjoy our first moments together as a family.”

His eyes were glued to her, tracking anything she stuck in her mouth, which was now the collar of his sweatshirt. He watched as if it were a star forming in front of his eyes, and he whispered, “I love our little family.”

My throat tightened.

It was happening... We were all together. I had dreamed about this day but thought it could never happen.

I gave a watery-eyed smile at Jenner and nodded. “I love it too.”

Chapter 15

Jenner

“Don’t you dare.” I glared at Jocelyn.

She sighed as she grabbed a piece of jewelry, holding it up to her neck.

“I don’t have the slightest idea what you’re talking about.” She scrunched up her nose and put the necklace down, only to pluck another one with emeralds on it.

I had spent the best day of my life with Lola and Jenni at her home yesterday. This morning when I woke up, I felt like my life made total sense. I had a family—the family I always wanted. While I had never pictured myself having kids, Jenni changed my mind. She was silly and sweet, and I fell madly in love with her.

And Lola was a wonderful mother. Somehow, she was even more breathtaking than she was two years ago. Perhaps it was having Lola that made her beauty grow, but whatever it was, I didn’t want to leave last night. I begged to stay over, but she was uncertain if Jenni would react well to seeing me there in the morning.

We agreed to take it slow with Jenni.

“Yes, you know what I’m talking about. I know what you’re doing.”

My sister snorted, threw the necklace back onto the tray and turned toward another jewelry case. The assistant shoved the tray back into the glass case and ran over to my sister, smiling at her needlessly. That guy was wasting his suck-up skills on the wrong customer.

“I’m picking out a necklace. I suddenly decided I needed one, and The Blue Spot seems to have a jewelry shop on the premises. I thought I’d hate this place, but it’s growing on me.”

“And you’re growing on Eric like a fungus,” I mumbled.

“I heard you.” She lifted her brow toward me before pointing at something in the case.
