“Doctor what now?” I wondered if I had a pea stuck in my ear because I could have sworn he said Fexy.

“Dr. Fexy.” His cheeks turned pink, and it was adorable. “With an F, not an S. Many people get that confused.”

“I don’t really think the F is any better,” Lydia commented.

I shook my head at her, and she shrugged before she whispered, “What? It’s true.”

“Well, Doctor, uh, Fexy, my daughter, Jenni, got a pea stuck in her ear.”

He puffed out his chest and stared at Jenni. “My goodness. That is serious. This might need my magic tool.”

Jenni’s eyes grew large, and she stared at the doctor as if he were a true magician.

“Sounds serious, Doctor.” I placed Jenni back on the bed.

He went over and grabbed something from the cabinet by the back wall. After unwrapping it, he took the metal tool and stood next to Jenni.

“I just need to peek into your ear for a minute, Jenni. Would that be okay?”

She nodded, smiling up at the doctor. He stood so close to me as I held Jenni’s hand that I caught a whiff of his spicy cologne.

Damn, he was hot, amazing with my kid, and a doctor—he was the total package. And then Jenner ruined the moment. I was having a good time watching thefucking sexydoctor care for my baby as if she were his own when thoughts of Jenner burst into my head.

I couldn’t help but notice Jenner’s glee when he realized Marika didn’t know I owned Hudson Estate. He was doing everything he could to embarrass me. He was nothing like thefucking sexydoctor.

Fexy was sweet and caring, while Jenner was a jerk. A jerk who felt nothing for me and wouldn’t want anything to do with Jenni.

A part of me felt guilty being attracted to the doctor, but not anymore. Jenner proved today that he wasn’t the man I fell in love with years ago.

“All done.” The doctor stood and held out the pea in an otherwise empty glass dish.

“Looks kind of shriveled.” Lydia frowned. “Makes you wonder if size really doesn’t matter.”

Dr. Fexy’s cheeks reddened again while a laugh burst out of my mouth.

“Lydia.” I shook my head at her.

“What? She doesn’t even know what I’m talking about.” She shrugged, pointing at Jenni.

“Yes, butwedo.” I waved my hand between the doc and myself. I glared at my friend, but she ignored me and kept smiling up at the doctor.

“Do you mind if I speak to you in private for a moment, Ms...?”

“Ms. Hudson. Lola, actually. You can call me Lola.” I felt my face heat as I gazed into his perfect emerald eyes.

“Sounds good, Lola.” He dropped the tool he used on Jenni into a red bin and placed the dish with the sad pea on the table by my daughter’s bed.

Guiding me away from my daughter and Lydia, he took me out of the emergency room and back into the waiting room.

“There’s not a lot of room to talk in there, so I figured it would be better out here.”

All thoughts of sexiness disappeared as I realized why he took me away from my daughter. He saw something in her ear—a lump or something that wasn’t right. I clutched the collar of my wool coat to prepare myself for the worst.

“This is my card. I want you to call me if anything comes up.”

I swallowed and reached over to take it. “Anything? Is that code for... cancer?” My voice cracked as I uttered the last word.

“Oh no. No.” He scratched the top of his head and winced. “Is that why you thought I brought you out here? God, I’m an idiot. There’s nothing wrong with your daughter, Lola. From what I can see, she’s a perfectly healthy little girl.”
