Whoever is threatening Haley, could have easily gotten inside her home. Having her harmed isn’t a risk I want to take.
Scotty offers me a forced smile. “Where to, boss?”
″Home. I have to get changed. Then we’re taking a day trip.”
Scotty’s brow raises, but he knows not to question me.
I heave a sigh as I adjust on the seat and pull my phone from my pocket. Da is going to want in on this fucked up plan of mine. And I’m going to need all the help I can get.
″I got to see you last night, and now I’m graced with a phone call this morning.” He greets cheerfully. “Has Hell frozen over?”
″Hey, Da. I need your help with something.”
″What is it, son?”
″I need you to pull some strings with our family in Washington State. And if you’re up to it, we need to get on the jet today.”
Da pauses. “What’s going on, son? This isn’t business, is it?”
″It’s for Haley.”
″Where are you?”
″Headed to my penthouse.”
″I’ll meet you there.”
I disconnect, shoving the phone in my pocket. My head flops against the back of the seat and I close my eyes as I focus on breathing. If I don’t, the anger I’d been holding in since last night will come to the forefront. I pushed it aside as she told me all the fucked up things done to her. But I can’t do it now without her present.
My patience is at its limit.
The tightening in my chest only increases the more I think about her past, and the list of things that need to be done in order to rectify her situation is piling high.
We’re still in the process of declaring war on the Russians, meanwhile, I’m about to take a trip to Washington State to collect the animal who created the darkness clouding Haley.
I need more information on her stepfather, and I have to come up with a plan that makes his disappearance instead seem like he’s hiding.
Haley is right. He can’t be extinguished as a hero. Everyone has to know what he’s done. The sick fucks of this world have to pay.
Just as I made Liam Doyle pay for his sins, Jason Parkin will pay for his, and I will be the executioner.
″Fuck.” The curse escapes me in a growl as I grab my phone again. This is about to be an entire family event.
″Murphy Family Radio Station. Go ahead, caller! You’re on the air!” Sean’s voice comes across my line. I can almost hear the little smart ass’s grin as I imagine him bouncing in his computer chair.
″I need you to do some digging on Haley’s stepfather.”
″Jason Parkin? We did that weeks ago, Cal. What’s going on?”
″The fucker needs to die, Sean. Figure out his hobbies. Likes and dislikes. And get the jet fueled. We’re leaving in an hour.″
″What’s going on?”
″It’s time to play my favorite game. Down goes the pedophile.”
″Oh, fuck. You can’t be serious.”
″Deadly so, brother.”
