She glanced at me, but I kept my lips tightly shut and shook my head.

“He says no. But I think he’s lying.”

Bloody hell, this was the last thing I needed. Someone babying me, treating me like I was an invalid.

“Well, if I know anything about Taylor, it’s that he’s got grit. Tell him I said to listen to the doctor. Take his meds.”

How did he know I wasn’t taking my meds? Was she talking to him about me behind my back? Was she sharing personal shit? Fuck. I couldn’t have the team’s owner knowing this was going on.

“I’m working on him. He’s resting right now. Doing a good job of staying off his knee, but his first physical therapy appointment is tomorrow. So we’ll see how that goes. I’ll keep you posted.”

No, she fucking would not.

“Great. Do you and Clara want to come over for dinner?” she continued, staring me down.

I glanced at myself. Surely she didn’t mean tonight. I was minging. I hadn’t showered in days. Fuck.

“When?”

“I was thinking tonight, if it’s not too short notice.”

How the hell did she think she’d get away with not even asking me?

“I think we can make that work. We can get a babysitter or—”

“No! Bring Quinn with you. I haven’t snuggled my niece in a long time. I’ll ask Scarlett to come too.”

My stomach churned. Scarlett. Her sister who burdened me with a secret she still hadn’t mentioned. Her pregnancy. I’m sure I would have heard about it by now if she had.

“Oh yeah, that’d be great. Clara hasn’t been able to get a hold of her. You guys must be busy.”

“Yeah, we are. Lots of parties and orders to cater.”

“Well, that’s good news.”

“It is. It’s a good problem to have. I like staying busy, you know.”

“So does that sister of yours I’m married to. It’s so hard to get her to take a break. Dinner will be nice tonight.”

“Sounds good. I’ll see you guys around six.”

“I’ll let Clara know. Tell Taylor we’re all thinking about him, okay? And that if he needs anything, all he has to do is ask.”

“I will. I’ve got you on speaker. He heard you.”

“I mean it, Taylor.”

I grunted in response, then waited as she hung up the phone.

“You shouldn’t be answering my phone, lass.”

“Why not? You sure weren’t.”

“Because it’s my phone. What if it had been a personal call?”

“From who? Your other girlfriend, your secret wife? A hot nurse?”

I grumbled. “You know you’re the only one for me.”
