“Tomorrow, Jade.”
She sighed. “Yes, sir.”
“Good girl. Get back to work,” Cole said.
She turned to go.
“Look at the guy in the wheelchair,” a man at the next table said to one of the other guys.
Jade stopped in her tracks. “What about him?” she asked. They’d be running if anyone who knew her heard that soft tone of voice.
“Gorgeous, if you want a real man, pick me. That guy probably can’t get it up.”
“Jade,” Cole said at the same time she brought the tray down on the guy’s head, knocking him out of his chair.
She dropped down on the guy’s chest and pounded on him before someone pulled her off.
“Jade, settle down,” Cole yelled.
That was when she realized she was sitting on Cole’s lap. She instantly deflated.
“Jesus Christ, I wouldn’t want to be in a fight with her.”
“Austin, shut the fuck up,” Cole said over his shoulder.
“Dammit, Jade, what did you do?” the manager asked ashe rushed over.
“She laid Jervis out, boss. It was awesome,” Micky said. “The guy’s an asshole.”
She pressed her face against Cole’s chest. “I’m sorry,” she whispered.
She heard him sigh, and then his hand ran up and down her back.
“I know. We’ll deal with your temper later.”
“Jade, why don’t you get back to work? I’ll deal with the asshole,” the manager said.
She peeked up at him. “So, I’m not fired?”
“No, dear. You work harder than two waitresses put together.”
She nodded and tried to slip out of Cole’s lap, but he held her.
“Remember tomorrow,” he said.
“Yes, sir.”
“Okay.” He lifted her out of his lap with an ease that astounded her. “Go on, baby.”
She started to walk away.
“That bitch needs a good lesson,” Jervis yelled.
She heard a grunt and then the sound of a table hitting the floor. She turned to see Cole over Jervis, and Jervis was passed out. Her manager looked like he was going to lose it, and she felt a little sad for him because he was a really nice guy.
At that moment, all she cared about was Cole hitting the guy because of her.
He couldn’t have done anything more special, and she just fell a little in love with him at that moment.
