“You could give Isaac a run for his money. I’d say it’s better than his.” She took another bite.

Somehow, Damion had known exactly what she’d needed that night.

Reaching across the table, she took his hand and as she opened her mouth to tell him how she felt, they said the three words at the same time.

Her eyes locked with his and then they laughed.

“Damn, I wanted to say it first,” he joked.

“It’s a tie.” She smiled. “I like it better this way.”

He walked over to her, lifted her to her feet, and kissed her.

“So do I,” he said against her lips.

“I should be wearing silk, not sequins.” She laughed.

“I like it. My little mermaid.” He looked down at her. “I feel like a prince when I’m around you.”

She cupped his face and brought him back down to kiss her. “You are my prince.”

CHAPTERTWENTY-SEVEN

James Oliver Costas was born at a quarter past one in the morning. He weighed all of six pounds, eight ounces. And according to his father, he screamed bloody murder until he got his first meal.

“With those lungs, I’m surprised he didn’t wake the entire hospital wing,” Owen said, as he looked down at the small bundle in his arms.

Damion had always thought that newborns were ugly. They were usually bright red or pale white with pudgy little faces and eyes that were just little slits. Not to mention the lack of hair on their shiny cones.

But he had to admit, James was the exception. The kid was downright cute. He had a mass of dark curls on top of his head. His wide eyes seemed to look all around the room and follow whoever was talking. But he returned his gaze to his father and mother each time they spoke.

“How are things at work?” Hannah asked Jules.

Everyone else had left the family sometime earlier that day.

Hannah and baby James were scheduled to be released to go home the following morning. Everyone else was back at work. Jules had the day off and he’d gotten Dean to fill in for him on his day off.

They had stopped and purchased the new family a small gift before stepping into the hospital.

Damion really liked shopping for the baby. He kept thinking of what their kids would look like while he checked out all the little outfits.

Thinking about kids had him thinking about marriage. He already knew Jules was the woman he wanted to spend the rest of his life with. What he didn’t know was how soon was too soon to ask her to marry him.

They had technically been dating for less than a month. But they had known one another for almost six years. He knew more about her than he knew about anyone else he’d been with before. And he’d dated Regina for over a year.

How did he go from where they were now to where he wanted them to be?

He’d planned last night’s dinner just on a whim. But in the back of his mind, he’d known that it was past time he told her how he felt. It had been a happy surprise when she’d told him at the same time.

It was the first time he’d said those word to any woman other than his mother and grandmother. He meant them more than he imagined he ever could. What he felt for Jules went beyond what he’d imagined love was.

“Here,” Owen said, walking towards Jules. “You can hold him.”

Jules easily took the small bundle in her hands, and he watched tears form in her eyes as she looked down at James.

“Hi.” Jules smiled down at the baby. “You don’t know it yet, but I’m going to be your favorite person.” She leaned down and whispered, “I’m going to spoil you rotten.”

Damion smiled and felt his heart melt. Then Jules moved towards him, and he looked down at the tiny bundle and felt his heart completely liquify.
