A freakin' lizard. I still my features and keep my distance. I am...overprotective of my growing babies and find that I don't tempt fate by being careless. "You mentioned a mate."

The man steps forward and for the first time, I see a scared-looking child standing behind him. My mom instincts kick in and I am right beside her. This girl needs help alright.

"I'm eighteen. I'll be nineteen at the end of this month." She reaches out for the man standing beside her who takes her hand immediately. "Percy tells me you might be worried that I am too young to be...pregnant."

"We've heard you are going through the old books translating things into our language." This has my eyes going toward my mate. Is it a good thing that creatures like him know what I am doing in the castle library?

Be calm, my little flower.

"My mate - she's expecting our first child but...I'm not sure what that means. I've never met anyone like me and for so long I've been focusing on hiding. It didn't matter if there were things I might need to be aware of before I met Ava. Now...I need help."

My heart goes out to the two of them. There are things I worry about that I am lucky Dorin has a long memory and a huge library full of books about.

"How long will I be pregnant? Am I going to have a live birth or...," she looks away before whispering, "eggs?"

I turn to look at the books behind me. Are there answers in there for this couple? Wouldn't I want someone to help me if I were in their place? I run my eyes back to Dorin who already knows what I am about to say. He gives me a little nod. "Welcome to our home. Please come sit down. It might take me a little while but...I'm going to try to find something that will help."

After all, us mates have to stick together. Only another woman who has been made into a mate could ever understand what we are going through. And maybe our husbands who are always close by our sides and wandering through our minds. Our other halves to our souls.

A Year Later

I jostle both babies up and down as I wait for my lovely wife to get done speaking with a doctor. Normally I wouldn't let anyone get this close to my mate but this doctor is special. She is a mate herself and happens to also be a mother to one of the new offspring that seem to be bursting forth. She is mated to a wolf shifter from a town close to my brother's castle and someone Lilli sent Ava to when she was having Percy's baby.

She was there when our little dragonlets were born as well. So there is a trust there that goes deep. "So you see from what it says here and what you've seen in her blood-work I think she will have live babies like Ava."

Lillie mentions the woman she has taken under her wing who is mated to one of the reemerging lizard species that have finally come forward once more.

"Aha yes, I see." The woman nods as leans closer to my mate before straightening, "I have some books I want you to try to transcribe for us. Me and Daimon haven't been able to make anything out of it but it might give us some much-needed answers." The woman pulls a thick leather-bound book out of a bag and lays it on top of the desk my wife is standing in front of.

"Oh, Anna," my mate's brow crinkles, "that is because it's not in any of our languages. It looks sort of like...is that...elvish?"

"Elvish? Is that...? Are there...? Oh my."

I laugh at the looks the ladies give one another. Another page for our continuing story to tell and now we have women who want to tell our tale, who want our world known. Women who are pulling us from the darkness into the light and fighting for us to be accepted by all.

Now...we have mates!
