“Do you have visions as well?” He laughs.
“I plead the fifth.”
“Then how would you know?”
“Because I’m closer than you think, you want to know how you could possibly have found your mate in a vampire offspring?” Well fuck me.
“Yeah, that was…yeah, I was going to ask that.”
“Because Gabrielle isn’t full vampire, she is half shifter.” Now that revelation has me stumped. “I must go now.”
“Yeah, okay.”
“Cairo?”
“Yeah?”
“You ever hurt my daughter again or throw her to the ground like you did tonight, I’ll tear your fucking head off and send it to your sister.” The line goes dead, I stare at my phone for what seems like an eternity, my vision becomes fuzzy. Alexander was in the woods tonight! He had to be, there is no other way he would have known that. Fuck I have to fix this shit with her, Cole is right, I’m being a dick because of things with Sky. It’s not Sky’s fault, its mine, I’ve known for a long time that the love I feel for her isn’t how a man loves a woman, I love her like… I can’t explain it. Belle makes my blood boil, and just seeing her gets my cock hard. With Sky, I will kill anyone who hurt her let alone go to war for her any day of the week, no questions asked.
“Why are you sitting out here?” I smirk.
“Should I add mind reader to your list of talents?” She scoffs as she drops down beside me.
“You forget we are tethered, and I can find you anywhere.” I sigh. “What’s going on Ro?”
“I fucked up Sky, I fucked up really bad.”
“What happened?”
“She asked if we had ever slept together, and I told her the truth.” Sky whistles and shakes her head, then laughs––She fucking laughs! “The fuck is so funny Skylar?” The little shit continues her charade of laughter, and it irritates the fuck out of me. I’m glaring at the side of her head and want nothing more than to wring her fucking neck.
“Did you tell her thewholetruth?”
“No.” I grit out clenching my teeth, she rolls her lips over her teeth to stop herself from laughing.
“Maybe you should have, if you did, you wouldn’t be sitting here sulking.”
“Geez, anyone ever tell you that you fucking suck at pep talks?” She smirks at me.
“Nah, Callie calls me her hype woman.”
“Callie lied to you.” She laughs and nudges me with her shoulder.
“What’s really going on Ro? There has to be something else, because you wouldn’t be this deep in your feels if it was just her finding out we slept together.”
“It’s…I don’t even know Sky, she’s, my mate.” I laugh but there’s no humor to it. “And I sold her to the devil to save…you.” Sky releases a loud whoosh of air; I can feel the disappointment radiating off her.
“Nothing is set in stone Ro. Don’t push her away because you feel obligated to save me, I can feel the power inside me growing unstable each day. I want to go out on my own terms, give me that…please.” I want to be selfish and tell her no, but the truth is Sky has always lived each day like it’s her last, and I’ve made sure she had a great life.
“How am I supposed to let you go?” I meet her gaze and allow her to see everything I am feeling. “How do I do that Sky? Part of you lives inside me, and because of you, Bexley was freed from needing a pack and going rogue.” She smiles sadly and stands; she offers me her hand and I stare at it for a moment before she sighs and says.
“I think it’s time I tell them my story, and you need to realize that I wasn’t the one who gave you a gift.” I furrow my brow in confusion. “Cairo, you gave me a family and a place to belong, you have protected and loved me when you didn’t have to. I love you Ro, but it’s time you stop this madness and focus on yourself and your mate. Whatever you have done or said, you can change it, don’t do this to yourself.” I climb to my feet and pull her to me wrapping my arms around her, she rests her head against my chest. I place a kiss to the top of her head and try to control my emotions, it’s her story to tell, and I won’t hold her back anymore.
“I love you too Sky.” The sound of twigs snapping has me spinning around and pushing Sky behind me, Bexley pushes forward so I’m able to see in the dark, but I can’t see anyone. The hairs on the back of my neck raise, and a shiver races down my spine, someone is out here. “Let’s go, it’s not safe.” I grip her hand and drag her behind me, I can see the break in the trees that will lead us to the path at the back of Jess’s house, but a growl sounds out and I freeze.
“Cairo, we’re not alone and they’re not from our pack.” Sky and I move so we are back-to-back, I open the link I have with my pack.
Get to the woods behind my sister’s house, rogues are here, alert Jess and Creed now!
