I froze. He was right. “I’m going to bed,” I muttered breathlessly before returning to the safety of my threshold. “I’m too tired for your games.”

“Good thinking. You’ll need to rest if you’re going to keep up with me at the wedding tomorrow.”

“I think I can handle it.”

“Oh, I know you can…” He tilted his head with a chuckle. “But will you?”

With a growl, I seized the door and swung it closed before I melted before him. I was entirely out of my depth with Adam. His words made me blush, his behavior drove me crazy, and his touch made me submit. Adam was a force of nature—and one my grandmother never prepared me for.

Josie peeked around my head to look at my reflection. “Wow, that necklace really does match perfectly.”

I touched the garnierite crystal dangling from the silver chain and smiled. “It’s supposed to heal and open my heart chakra.”

“I love that. Can we slip it into Adam’s pocket?”

“It will take more than a crystal to open him up…but I’m working on it. At least he’s agreed to part with his phone for the wedding.”

“What? No cell phone? Adam will go into shock.”

“We have a deal. Neither of us are allowed to discuss work—unless Liam needs me, of course. So, Adam will have no choice but to talk to me.”

“Oh, you’re crafty, but I highly doubt Adam will be able to speak once he sees you in that dress.”

“I’m sure I pale in comparison to the girls he dates.”

“Cassidy, you’re way sexier than the girls he’s used to…and you’rereal. There is nothing real about them. Now, you need to stop overthinking and enjoy yourself. You deserve a little fun, too.”

“Thanks, Josie.”

She gathered up her makeup and headed to the door. “Now, I’ll go feed Harry, pop on my dress, and meet you and Adam outside in half an hour, okay?”

I smiled. “Sounds like a plan.”

Once she left, I twirled around with a giggle. I hadn’t dressed up in years. Along with my gorgeousmintdress, my usual beach waves were set in a smoother and more classical style, and my makeup, while understated, illuminated my green eyes. I felt like a movie star, and I was savoring the moment. It was easy to look this good with money, and I may never have the opportunity again.

Unable to wait any longer, I gathered up my essentials and made my way to the door, only to discover Adam hovering on the other side.

His eyes lifted as his mouth fell open. “Wow.”

My smile widened as my gaze rolled over his tailored suit. “Wow, yourself.”

“You look…beautiful.” Adam’s jaw pulsed, but his hands didn’t budge from his pockets.

I closed the door behind me. “I hope you weren’t waiting long.”

“No…I was just giving myself a stern talking to before knocking.”

“About?”

“Not screwing up.”

“Work will be there tomorrow, Adam. You need to stop worrying—at least for today.”

Adam rubbed his freshly shaven jawline. “Yeah, I know.”

“Do I need to frisk you for your phone?”
